They love Americans. I believe Koreans and the Japanese don't really like each other.

Koreans don't just dislike the Japanese, many hate them.

Why? What was their purpose?

There was a very strong belief amongst Japanese society that surrender was disgraceful and fighting to the death would be preferable.

If you read about the Raping of Nanking, supposedly part of the reason for the Japanese being so brutal to the Chinese was how easily the Chinese surrendered (in the Japanese's opinion at least).

Why? What was their purpose?

Bushido, the way of the warrior. They believed war was purifying and death was their duty.

What's the best book to really get educated on this piece of history? Great thread..fascinating. Would love to read more on this.

I need a history refresher.

I am very much aware of why/how Germany was at the center of WW1 and WW2.

How and why did Japan get involved in WW2?

Thanks! Super interesting thread.

The US cut off their oil supplies. This was supposedly the trigger.

Japan needed the oil for its military action in China. The US turned up the embargo heat in June of 1941 and it went downhill from there.

Watching a documentary on it right now on the Smithsonian channel. Interesteding that President Truman did not know anything about the Manhatten Project until 10 days after Roosevelt died.
