Do You Invest in Stocks/Stock Market?

Featured Replies

Great advice. Im in the process of rolling 401K. Funded new account last Wednesday. Luckily i do not have to invest it immediately. Didn't lose a penny last week. Also rolling pensions into Roth. If you're buying individual stocks. Educating yourself self is key. Start with 5. Odds are two will exceed expectations. Two will underperform, one will meet expectations. Good luck

Be careful during these times as China is going through its version of 1929 and we have not hit bottom either.

I won't be retiring for 30 years so I'm not worried even a little.

Good luck with that.

Those who invested at the top in 1989 when the NIKKEI index was at its peak around 40,000 are still not even halfway back after 26 years.

Excellent, good outlook. I'm near retirement but don't figure to hit the funds for over twenty years so I'm not sweating it either. We'll be ok.

Dollar-cost-averaging towards a Secular Bear Market Bottom will cost you most of your investments - if there ever is a bottom as is the case in Japan.

I'll say it again; picking bear market bottoms isn't easy. Very few people have the patience, conviction and endurance that it takes to survive the volatility of a bear market bottom. This is especially true when everyone else they know is making money buying into the latest bubble. But human nature never changes, and those people always get caught when the bubble pops. Tech investors, real estate investors, and possibly Bit Coin investors come to mind.

In contrast, the few traders that can hold on and survive a bear market bottom become the millionaires and billionaires of tomorrow.

Good luck with that.

How many people were investing exclusively in the Japanese market in 1989? Even if you did it as an index fund you'd surely be in funds elsewhere that would have more than balanced it out.

There are many stories of Japanese families having their life savings wiped out. Home values fell dramatically.

China is on the brink of this situation.

The USA still has record-level debt to GDP ratios and PE ratios that were not resolved with the 2008 washout when all of the markets plummeted.

We are simply repeating these same actions from these other bear markets.

The crash of 2015 or 2016 which is coming will wash away all confidence in buying the dips.

How many people in the US are invested solely in the NASDAQ and DOW?

Uh oh....dow down 807 as of 9:40am...

Roughly a 6% dip! Paper losses until folks decide to move it. Thinking long term is a beautiful thing!!! Hang in there folks...

I would hope not many.

This sucks.

I know you just have to let it ride, but I went from a year to date return of ~7.5% as of Thursday morning to a year to date loss of ~5.5% as of 10 am today. 13% loss in about 2 days is rough to just "let ride".

It's getting uglier by the moment.

Just got "Less ugly" for a minute. DOW Was only down $250.00 Now back to $400. down. Sure beats the $900 from early this AM.

Crazy day. Just sitting back and chilling about it.

used the word prettier to describe a $400 loss :)
