August 26, 201511 yr Say you had $1,000 in a lump sum to invest (or as you said to max out your IRA) . Why not do it $100 for 10 months to average your buys? Dont always have the $100 every month. I just happened to have the money to do it so I did.
August 26, 201511 yr Say you had $1,000 in a lump sum to invest (or as you said to max out your IRA) . Why not do it $100 for 10 months to average your buys? Depending on how you do it that could cost you $8-9 on each trade so by the end you spent $90 of the $1000 just buying it.
August 26, 201511 yr Dont always have the $100 every month. I just happened to have the money to do it so I did. Understand completely. I have it taken out so I never see it. Started off with the bare minimum and every year I'd get a raise, I'd raise my contribution by and extra % until I maxed out. More you save earlier in life the more you will have later in life.

This was my IRA not my work 401K. Separate things.
