Charlie Adkins in not around to confirm why he came back to coach the Tigers after he retired the first time either. No fabrications sir, I can assure you that. Like I said not knocking Johnnie as a person, a coach, his morals, or ethics (the weekend practice thing is factual tough) . The full blown loony bird in tow is the subject matter, and is something that the Ashland faithful will have to find out on their own. It's just amazing at the lengths that Johnnie has taken to take care of him over the years. Really amazing. It has indeed been a real deal killer though, up until the Ashland situation.

 

By the way, not an Ashland supporter (that'll be the day), but someone who may very well know way more than you think I do. Former experiences with the parties involved can speak volumes, sir.

This thread is becoming depressing to read. So much speculation with little to no substance behind it. If they were a package deal, they were a package deal, whats the problem with that? It happens all the time in sports. The truth is the man was the best available coach and Ashland hired him. The rest is history, I certainly do not see this man ruining the program. I wish Dwight would stay on as an assistant and be groomed for the hc job in the future, but if he wants to spend more time with his kids, that's completely understandable.

 

Mark Swift and crew have been quick to can coaches that weren't meeting expectations lately, so if some of you are right and Lemaster doesn't pan out, I'm sure it will be rectified quickly. But personally, it sounds like a bunch of sour grapes from some of you. I get it, you don't like the man or whoever Craig is and your not an Ashland fan. So was he fired along with Wilcox? If not did they tell him he no longer has a job at Ashland? You would obviously know more about the situation than I, andbi have mentioned how much I like Dwight being part of the program and a future head coach. But you previously said he wouldn't be a part of the program so he could spend more time with his kids, I get that. Now your saying he left because he didn't get the hc job? That's a shame because the job would eventually be his. I hate it for him, he's a good dude, but maybe he should have taken this opportunity and learned from someone with more experience and embraced it. In the grand scheme of things he would likely still become hc in the future and would have more knowledge about coaching than he does now.

 

Do I think Dwight could take the reigns right now and do well, yes. If I were Dwight and had the opportunity to learn more about head coaching from someone that has done it at many levels, yes. Would I be upset about not getting the job being a former player and current coach, likely so. But would i continue to bleed maroon and white and wait my turn, yes.

Regardless of whether it was Lemaster or somebody else, it's a good sign for Ashland athletics that they chose to go with the best option instead of allowing "small town politics" dictate the decision. I hope others in the area will take a cue from that decision.
