Highlands has the toughest schedule.

 

Proof is in the pudding.

 

Highlands' games against Boone County and Grant County are no contest. Copper, Campbell, Dixie, and Cov Cath are all well below "top tier" this year. That's 6 out of 10 games that are below top tier. Scott County is pretty top notch, as is Simon Kenton. Ryle is borderline top notch...we'll see as the season progresses. St. X (Lou) is easily top tier.

 

Cov Cath has Highlands, St. X (Cincy), and Columbus DeSales that are all easily top tier. They have the same Scott County, Ryle, Dixie, and Grant County matchups, plus games against very tough Lex Cath and Sycamore. Beechwood is even a decently tough one (although very winnable for the Colonels).

 

Not saying that Highlands is going to be less of a team for their schedule, but saying that they have the toughest schedule in NKY is patently false.

In your esteemed opinion what are the 4 toughest games for the Birds?

 

They play Ryle Sept. 11th.

I am overly impressed with their schedule.

The true test will be how they come out of some games.

 

Sometimes a a team needs to strengthen their schedule to improve but those teams also have to be at a stage where they can handle it. I think CCH is at that stage right now, but it will be interesting to see where they are mentally at the end of the season.

 

Some me other teams may be in over their heads with a schedule like that and it could hurt their psyche.

 

Good for CCH for taking in some big dogs.

I posted this in another thread a few weeks back:

 

 

 

I am of the belief that CovCath's scheduling has been overkill for essentially an entire decade. It always seems to be the same story as well....

 

Story of CovCath

- Pre-Season #2 or #3 "This is the year we beat Highlands"

- Lose a bunch of games in Non-District, get banged up

- People debate their ranking

- Beat some small school power in NKY

- People wonder if they can beat Highlands

- Play close for a Half then get romped by Highlands

- Beat the other district teams and blame loss to Highlands on an injury

- Beat Ashland or Johnson Central at full strength

- Anticipated rematch with Highlands

- Lose to Highlands in a game that gives just enough false hope to repeat the cycle the next season

I would be curious to see what would happen if CovCath instead kept their confidence high and kept their team injury free for the majority of the regular season.

 

Sorry BlueBoys, but I'm hoping this years sequel has the same ending.
