I am honestly trying to find somewhere in the world where they celebrate the loser of a rebellion. Where else do they display the flags and have monuments standing?

Che comes to mind. Some might say Rommel.

I think most of Che's supporters are in Cuba, not the country that vanquished him.

I think of all the Che posters, shirts and stickers you see here in the U.S. I was under the impression the CIA killed him but I could be wrong. I was just going off the statement there are people who do not win a rebellion but are celebrated.

Edit: there is a bust of Che in Bolivia where he is referred to as a saint.

George Washington Statue in London, pretty sure they thought he was a Rebel from the English perspective...yet he did win.

Is that statue in Scotland or England? The Scots would win their independence.

Is there a statue of Davy Crockett in Mexico like there is in San Antonio?

That Statue is in Aberdeen, you are correct. But this plaque honoring him and calling him a patriot and inspiration is England near where he was killed...

If I was Native American, I would be offended by the American flag.

To be fair, though William Wallace was killed in 1305, the Scots did win the First and Second Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century and remained independent of England until the Act of Union in the 18th century.

I do think that noble losers are celebrated throughout the world for various deeds, if, in most cases, history shows their cause to be just. I don't think that final qualifier is something that can be said of the Old South.

That looks nothing like Braveheart

Wonder what possessed the Brits to put up a statue of George?

I looked that up. I think that is like a tourist deal and not state sponsored. Either way Bolivia must have some freedom, because I could see where that would get you killed in most nations.

First thing I thought of is the scene where he talks about William Wallace being 7 feet tall and can shoot lighting bolts out his...well I think you all know the scene. Like someone else said if people view the cause as just or the like they tend to be celebrated. Geronimo would be someone who might fit that category. I guess in many of these cases we are referring more to people that fall into the martyrdom category. Which of course Forrest does not.

Is does bring up the question of can you respect someone for their skills but hate them as a person and what they stand for? As a military mind Forrest was before his time in many ways. Get there firstest with the mostest is commonly quoted to him as his method of guirilla warfar. Compared to someone like Rommel who is considered one of the greatest tank commanders of all time who refused to follow orders about killing Jews, POW and to mistreat them in any way. That of course help lead to his death.

Great points. But what really led to Rommel's death was his involvement in a plot vs Hitler.

Bolivia, like several of the countries in that region, is an interesting place. The government of Evo Morales would certainly find Guevara a figure of note given their own leanings and the upheaval during the gas conflict of 2005 that led to the downfall of the government and Morales' election.

Isn't Che Guevara originally from Bolivia?
