2015 Home Run Derby

Featured Replies

Whomever thought of this format needs to get a big raise. And the last minute change to 4 minutes and only a 30 second bonus could be awarded was really a good move.

Smart move to because of the 2nd storm that blew in last night.

How were beer sales last night for ya? Talked to another buddy who vends and he said people were buying them like crazy.

If every game was like that, I'd quit my day job. It was great man. I doubled up and was carrying 60 at a time so I didn't have to keep reloading on beer. So much fun.

That was the most exciting and entertaining sporting event I can ever remember attending. The atmosphere was unreal every time Frazier swung. I've never seen GABP as rocking as it was when he hit the clincher. Just fantastic.

The new format has saved the HR Derby. Even without Frazier in it that would've been so entertaining because of the format. The perfect amount of time and kept everyone on the edge of their seats the entire night.

Best sporting event I've ever attended and I was working. So much fun. Such a buzz in the ballpark. Beers were flying out of my bin like balls out of the park.

100% agree, best sporting event I have attended in person and it isn't even close. Absolutely fantastic night, starting with the weather and the pre-game festivities surrounding the ballpark.

It also helped that I didn't have to listen to Chris Berman.

What about if they do bonus after other man hits?

This would be my only recommendation: let the other contestant hit, then do the bonus round(s) if necessary. It would add a little more suspense to the event itself.

That was absolutely amazing!! I was down at Tin Roof and the place was going nuts. That was the best HR Derby ever! And it made it even better with Todd winning.

Frazier is the first hometown player to win since Ryne Sandberg in '90.

I'd imagine that it was a safety concern. Fans all trying to catch a ball when another is flying at them.

It's also a quality of viewing issue. Even with these rules, they were switching back almost immediately upon landing to catch the next hit. The HS kids did not have to wait during their 1st round and it was kinda chaotic. Hard to decide where to watch - ball flight or next swing.

Although I am fine with the format if it stays the same, here are potential tweaks that might improve it:

* - 3:00 base time

* - :10 bonus time for 3 HR in a row; :25 bonus time for 5 HR in a row up to :25 total (place got really jacked up for consecutive HRs)

* - :10 bonus time for 425+ up to :20 total (everyone qualified for the :30 bonus in current format, so it wasn't really a bonus)

* - :15 bonus time for 450+ up to :30 total

* - 1:00 bonus time for 500+ up to 1:00 total (max 2:15 bonus and few will achieve that)

* - bonus time conducted after both players complete base time (gives rest & heightens tension)

Why change the format at all after last night? If it isn't broke, don't fix it! Too many rules confuse the participants and the fans. Last night was perfect!

Clearly the best Home Run Derby ever. The rule changes made it the best pre all star game competition in any of the major sports competition.

The Home Run Derby has gotten really stale over the past several years and has taken forever. Just like the slam dunk contest in the NBA it had become un-watchable. Last night however was awesome and one of the best things I've watched all year when it comes to sports. It was perfect.

I hope they don't change the rules back to 5 mins like it was supposed to be last night because 4 minutes was plenty and the batters were getting tired quick. 4 mins was perfect.

Most fun I've ever had watching any type of All-Star event. Frazier was king last night.

I think the split the pot was $59,000 last night. I'm sure it's been higher but that's the most I've heard. I played but didn't come close. Played once with it was $24,000 and had all but one number.
