Jason Pierre-Paul is not too bright, either.

I really don't understand why Schefter sent a pic of the report. If he would have just relayed the info, that would have been fine. I have found him to be reliable with his info.

Agreed. If I'm the 65 year old dude that was on the top of that report, I'm livid.

Schefter could be in big trouble. While releasing the information without consent is fine for a reporter, copying or releasing another's medical records (so posting the actual file) without signed consent is illegal.

According to some nurse friends I have (maybe LRCW can confirm this) its a felony, big time issues.

Yep.

Seems as if he would've simply said something like "I was able to view his medical records and he is having his finger amputated.", he's fine. The fact that he made the actual record available is a big-time no-no.

That's what I thought.

I can't figure out who the bigger idiot is...

JPP for blowing his hands off. Schefter for taking a picture and releasing his medical records or the person who let him take a picture of his medical records.

I'm going with "Frodo of the nine fingers."
Yep.

Where did you see this? Not doubting you, but just trying to wrap my head around a respected reporter putting this out there, many disputing it being a violation, still keeping it up, and the sudden mass of HIPPA experts we have.

It wouldn't shock me if the medical records came from the JPP camp.

A doctor, Dr. Johnny Benjamin, posted it on Twitter. Said it's not related to HIPPA because that only applies to medical facilities and employees. Said it is a privacy issue and medical records are confidential documents that are not allowed to be duplicated or shared without the consent of the patient.

With Schefter and ESPN not removing it, I wonder if JPP signed off on it? With his 5 finger hand?

He qualified everything by saying it was only IF they didn't obtain a signed consent form.

I'll add that I have no idea if he's accurate or not, just that I would assume a Dr. would have a better grasp on HIPPA and confidentiality laws when it comes to medical records than most.

A HIPPA win may be JPP's only decent payout of the year. Probably hoping it was a violation :lol2:

If they leaked his medical info to ESPN, it is certainly a violation. That's a major no-no.

My guess is 1st amendment may trump this.
