Montana Man Applies for 2nd Wife

Whoa...I'm not ridiculing the Bible only the tendency of some to throw in every argument. Polygamy was prevalent in Biblical times and spoke about in the Bible. Some would take that as enough to justify polygamy, BUT from your quotes as civilization grew we figured out that polygamy doesn't work.

Agreed! Someone likes to judge a bit ;)

As far as your last sentence, that's the problem with some people, they want to conveniently throw out what they don't like while scolding others for not following along with the verses they still agree with.

If a man can't learn his lesson with one wife, who cares if he has more.

I love how some people on here want to point to a Bible verse or two when it is convenient and "fits" their argument, but when others do it they get accused of ridiculing the Bible.

My favorite is the "you don't understand what the Bible was saying there" line...

Why the need to ridicule the Bible in almost every thread?

So you were ridiculing Christians and not the Bible by implying that since it records Abraham, David, Solomon, etc as having multiple wives the Bible condones such behavior?

Do you think I have done that--quoting verses out of context to fit my argument while scolding others who do so?

Do you think that is ever the case?

It is a common myth to believe that you can make the Bible say whatever you want it to. I do not deny people try to do that but there are rules for interpretation that if followed help a person to understand what it meant to its first readers and only then apply it to modern day readers. Many of the same rules that people use in understanding any literature can be applied to understanding the Bible. It takes effort. A broad understanding of the whole Bible helps to limit one's propensity to "prooftext."

Completely in the minority here' date=' but I have no issue with it. If consenting adults, and they clearly are, want to have multiple spouses, more power to them. It's not for me, but that doesn't make it wrong.[/quote']

I too fall into this category

To me, the Bible is open for interpretation. No two people are going to interpret it the same way. I do not in any way feel it is to be taken literally, I see it more as a guide.

So to answer your question, no, I don't think that's ever the case.

That is an interesting way of looking at the Bible.

Do you really believe it is not to be taken literally in any way? How about when it talks about an historical figure named Jesus that came from Nazareth?

Do you take it to be literally true when it says He was crucified by the Romans?

Do you take it to be literally true when it says He was raised from the dead?

Just think, you could have a wife that works, and a wife that stays home to raise the kids!

If anybody has ever wondered why prayer/religion is not taught in public school!

Every other day you would have a parent/grandparent/preacher in your room discussing the minuscule details of the Bible.

Pretty sure Mustang is saying that many use the text in their own way. In all reality we wouldn't have all these denominations if they didn't.

The death and resurrection of Christ ... miniscule details of the Bible?! And you wonder how anyone has trouble taking you seriously.

I'll ease up on Mustang, but as I recall, you were the one who brought Scripture into it.

Don't answer the questions i asked, Mustang, they are too personal to put out there on a public forum. I apologize for putting you on the spot.
