It's a very small, private Christian school, with limited resources, facilities and a small student athlete pool to draw from. They also play in a district with Scott, Campbell County, and Brossart...three consistently tough teams in all three of those sports. It's going to be a tough place to win and retain coaches. I don't think coaching turnover is a reflection of anything wrong with the school or administration....just a reflection of being in a tough situation athletically.

I would agree with all these points. I just wanted to make sure.

Douthit knows his stuff when it comes to coaching individuals and fundamentals. Who would they get to go to that small of school that would be even as good?

 

IF this statement is true he managed to keep it a well-kept secret from his players.

 

In his years at CChirstian his teams were the most fundamentally unsound of any that I have witnessed in my forty years in the business.

 

I was always dismayed that someone at Calvary couldn't see it.

I will agree a tough position due to the school's primary focus is not sports, and nothing wrong with that.

Nick Benge is a good coach who did a fine job with the Cougars.

 

John VanDerMeer admitted freely that he didn't know a whole lot about coaching basketball, BUT he made the effort, did the best he could, and was always seeking answers.

The position has been filled. A new AD is in place and has brought a new coach with him.

The number of students at Calvary have dropped since the days of Nick Benge and John VanDerMeer. From what I have been told enrollment is picking up, so maybe the new coaches will have a little more to work with.

In this case it is not a matter of how many players there were to work with, it is how he worked with them. There was no evidence of any coaching whatsoever.

Surprised by this. Theres a small Christian school down at the other end of Taylor Mill that has a coach that has developed a very nice program. Surprised they didnt reach out to him.
