Don't know the year, but Mike Jones and then Gray. Keith has retired twice...good column material.

Rumors are getting crazy. I've heard so many things I don't know what to believe and what not to believe. Superentendent Adams said they would name a coach in the next couple of weeks so I guess we'll have to wait until then before we know what is going on.

Ivy Burchell coached for a year or two after Keith retired before he was forced out and I believe that is when Keith returned.

Keith retired the first time after Clay won the region in 1994. I think Burchell coached for two years and Keith returned. He retired again after Clay won the region in 1999 and that's when Jones took over.

What did Grey say were the reasons he wanted to get out after such a nice season? I know the Tigers will be down next season, but I am sure they will still be very good and competitive with most teams in the region. Something is really unusual about this situation. I am sure as time passes things will become more apparent.

I really think that his stepping down was mainly due to the amount of time a high school coach has to put in, then add to that working his other job and that does not leave much time for your family or golf.

......Todd Messer is one name that will be sure to pop up as a potential replacement.

Without knowing all the details at Clay County, Messer would be a great hire. He of course has ties to the Tigers program. He would be a tremendous asset to the school as an educator, administrator and as a coach. Dont think they could go wrong with him in my opinion.

First, let me say that Coach Gray is a class act and excellent person.

I've spoke with Coach Gray several times, regarding some other matters and without going into detail, I believe an appropriate comment would be "both sides were trying to work some details out".

Outstanding history at Clay County and whomever gets the position, will strive toward maintaining the success.

I'm not sure they have a strong enough team coming back next year for him to take it, unless they have a surprise or two.

Les, they hired a newspaperman last time, so maybe you are next in line.

You know, now I might just apply.

I agree :thumb:

I heard today that Glen Glay who won 26 games in his first year at Clay County resigned after only one season. Does anyone know why?

Sorry I may ask some seemingly dumb questions sometimes, but since I am from Florida I am not always familiar with names familiar to most of you, but where does Todd Messer coach now, head, asst. ???? Just wondering.

It sure seems odd with you being from Florida that you know alot of coaches names in Ky.

What about Greg Coldiron who resigned from Powell County earlier this year. He has 13th region ties.
