Working moms abandoning GOP

Featured Replies

Maybe if our focus was on policies meant to support families and not on corporate profit, we'd not be having all these other topics to discuss. Just a thought....

I think we could close the thread on this. Rockmom just answered why women are shifting allegiance.

If conservatives want to show support for the family quit arguing who makes up a family and support those out there.

The United States is one of the few nations that don't offer paid leave for families when they have a child.

We are the United States of America. If anyone in the world is able to do it...anyone...we should be able to do it better.

We pay the politicians to figure it out, but the lack of focus on this speaks volumes about our nation's focus.

Your job is protected under FMLA , if you want a job that pays for leave find one , gain a skill or get a degree. All jobs aren't equal and the government creating another layer of red tape for business.

The answer to all our ills is more government instruction. The answer always is well other countries do it. Normally pointing to countries where socialism is a much stronger presence.

In 2014, the International Labor Organization reviewed parental leave policies in 185 countries and territories, and found that all countries except two (the United States of America and Papua New Guinea) have laws mandating leave; laws vary in whether leave is paid by the employer or through social security.

Sounds like this is something that only two countries aren't doing. One is the strongest nation in the world. If our money isn't going to protecting our families and educating our kids then we have some issues with priorities.

We are talking about supporting our WORKING families. These are people who have jobs. California and New Jersey have a plan in place.

So you want free child care , forced paid leave on top of health care for all? Government in our lives is not the answer. This is just insane.

Why stop there why not force all companies no matter what business to have paid vacation for all.

I will never reconcile the idea more government is a good thing. If your answers are more government and that's the winning ticket I don't want to win.

I support working families.

I just ask where our money is going if we don't support these things. If other nations can do it in some capacity why can't we? We seem to be able to do anything else we want. This seems a whole lot more productive: Support a professional who takes leave to raise their child.

Ah nevermind let's keep raining million dollar bombs somewhere else that will solve all our problems. Seems legit

I absolutely agree with you, but even then, I'm sure there would be a million disagreements about "what's good for the family."

Completely understand and agree. But wouldn't those be refreshing, compared to the current arguments?

I agree with both of you, but the owner of a corporation could argue and say the system now is good for his/her family.

All these other nations are teetering financially. Britain would love to be out of the EEC if they could have a do over. China is a house of cards. The Germany union is going swimmingly. Let's talk Greece. How about Russia?

Your solution is always to take from corporations. The less thy have to spend, the less they spend. It's that simple. Your solutions in California and NY drive jobs to Texas, Florida and the south. These are employer friendly states with good economies. People are moving there by choice. CT lost UBS to NY state. When does that happen then anyone loses jobs to NY? Now, GE, Aetna and Travelers are threatening to pull out of the state because rather than balance a budget, the gov't thinks they can tax corporations without repercussions. But ok. Paid family leave only benefits big corporations who can afford to pay these leaves, much like mandating health care and minimum wage, you simpletons will run the little guy out of business because big business is the only one who can keep up. And BTW, a lot of the big companies do offer the paid leave and they do it by choice to attract the type of worker they want. Supply and demand. It rally does work. Peace.

I support working families.

How about we cut spending and taxes and quit creating more programs where government has fingerprints on our lives

We are a country founded on individual responbility and your idea of good policy is putting responsibility on other people.

And quit this nonsense of supporting working families creating more government hurts working families.

Exactly a great majority of jobs already offer what we are talking about.

In reality what we are talking about being pursued is extra benefits for unskilled jobs or jobs without higher education.

Sure. And the Soviet system was great as long as your father sat on the Politburo.

I don't know how to make it work. I believe that unfettered capitalism is bad for families as is socialism. There must be a system in which private property is protected for individuals without society descending towards oligarchy. When I figure out how to pull it off, I'll let you know. :lol2:

You guys do realize what you're arguing against right!?

The rest of the world does this except us, THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and Papua New Guinea.

We have states already doing this. Just get ready...this will be another nail in the conservative coffin.

You understand how ironic your comparison was correct ?

I'm arguing against more government control of the private sector. I'm fully aware.
