May 28, 201511 yr The 90th annual Scripps National Spelling Bee takes place today! Early rounds are on ESPN2 right now and the finals are tonight on ESPN I believe. It is always entertaining to watch. The kids on there are absolute geniuses.

May 28, 201511 yr I would go so far as to say that some are socially awkward. That's what makes me laugh. It's like watching a tee ball game of 5 year olds that aren't any good. You're not watching for the game, but rather for how the kids carry themselves during the game.

I'd be curious to see how some of the winners/kids that did very well turned out in their adult life. Kind of a Scripps Spelling Bee "Where are They Now?"
May 28, 201511 yr When I was in the 4th grade, I was in our school's spelling bee & missed the first word I was given: Mayonnaise. Here's what I said, word for word, when the Moderator gave me that word: "M....A....N....Heck, I don't know," and walked off the stage.

Here's what I said, word for word, when the Moderator gave me that word: "M....A....N....Heck, I don't know," and walked off the stage. Must have been a 4th grade thing, even a generation earlier. I was in the "final two" and got knocked out by "business". Still haunts me to this day.
