May 18, 201511 yr I have no idea what my wife spends on clothes for her and the boys. I don't want to know. Just like she doesn't want to know how much my latest fishing tackle cost either. Sounds like the old joke about the guy who didn't report his credit card as stolen because whoever took it was spending way less than his wife.
May 18, 201511 yr I have no problem spending money on dress clothes or things that I wear frequently. But, I rarely buy clothes.
May 18, 201511 yr I have a $20 pair of work pants, and a $250 pair of insulated waders. It's all about priorities really.
May 18, 201511 yr Most of my clothes are UK/sports stuff that I've received for Christmas. I seldom buy clothes for myself, but if I want something bad enough, I'll pay whatever. However, I could have bought a yacht for the amount of money our family has spent on getting my wife & daughter tennis shoes.

Don't ask, don't tell is the best female shoe method.
May 18, 201511 yr I have found that going naked whenever possible really helps save on the clothing needs and cost.

May 18, 201511 yr I have found that going naked whenever possible really helps save on the clothing needs and cost. Yet again, I foresee a difficult time getting to sleep tonight.
May 18, 201511 yr Yet again, I foresee a difficult time getting to sleep tonight. Now you know how my wife feels.
May 18, 201511 yr Now you know how my wife feels. Not to threadjack an entertaining topic, but I'm reminded of a great Groucho Marx quote. "A man's only as old as the woman he feels."
May 18, 201511 yr With clothing you certainly get what you pay for. Casual things I will go to Kohls, but for my work clothes I'll pay more willingly.
May 18, 201511 yr Someone up above said when it comes to clothes, you get what you pay for. I think that is half true. In many designer lines I think part of the premium price is for some quality but most of the premium price is paying for the name more than anything and their enormous advertising budgets. For me, it depends on the item of clothing. I wear out dress shoes and dress pants quickly so there I will spend more than usual. Dockers and other department store type pants would split in the seat so quickly. There is a guy in Southern Indiana who will order direct for Hartz, Schaffner, Marx. I bought three pairs of pants from him five years ago, would wear one of the three five days a week to work and they are just now starting to show wear from where my wallet is. I will be buying three or four more from him soon. Shoes were even worse. Even when I started using shoe trees and would rotate what I wore, I would go through shoes quickly. Back in 2003 I bought a pair of Allen Edmonds and wore them more than any other shoe and they are just now starting to show wear but still have plenty of life. While I paid quite a bit for them up front, I have saved quite a bit over their life not having to buy new shoes almost yearly like I used to. Jeans are an area I am thinking about upgrading what I buy. I used to buy whatever would fit (I am over 6' 5'') but I have been convinced to give jeans from Duluth Trading Company a try. People I talk to online swear they last twice as long as Carhartt, Wrangler, Levi, etc. and don't cost a whole lot more so I will be giving them a try soon. Now, when it comes to dress shirts, I am fine buying the cheap stuff, shirts seem to last for ever so I see no need to buy better quality.

May 18, 201511 yr I would rather buy a quality product. If you watch sales and use coupons, you can often buy as cheap or cheaper at Macy's then you can at WalMart. I have absolutely no problem buying end of the season stuff at 80% - 90% off and saving it for next year.
