I hope they are right but I didn't see anything that would help

fhem this year. I saw all down the road type of players. I give them a C+

I will never understand how people can say right now that this was a terrible draft. None of these guys have been through a mini camp yet. No one would've thought Vontez would've been a stud and he wasn't even drafted. I think putting a grade on these things is an exercise in futility. I trust in Marvin to build a team to his scheme as he has rebuilt this roster 3 different times and continues to have success in the regular season and within the division.

 

As far as the 2nd round pick not helping immediately, I think you are looking at the swing tackle and 6/7th offensive lineman for next year and the way the past few years have gone I would guess he will see extensive time in the latter part of the season. I love getting the depth at tackle so they can let Andre Smith walk next season and receive a high compensatory pick in 2017. Great job of addressing a problem before it becomes a problem.

 

I'm most intrigued by the Paul Dawson pick and the high praise fromMayock gets me very excited. If he turns out anything like Chris Borland then they got themselves a steal.

 

This will be a hard roster for most of these picks to make anyway. The Bengals have quality players at every position and won't just keep a guy because they drafted him. I think they got some guys they will be able to stash on the practice squad until they are ready or needed.

 

I know there are a lot of fans that consider this a bad draft because they wanted to Bengals to draft the entire Ohio State Buckeyes roster lol. Just never going to happen!

 

And as far as Bud Dupree goes, I love the guy as a player and he will probably be a stud with the Steelers, but the Bengals have a young, deep rotation of true defensive ends that they've been developing. Bud will be best in the 3-4 and wouldn't be a great fit for the Bengals. I say give Hunt and Clark another year to improve with a completely healthy Geno in the middle and everyone will forget that they didn't draft Dupree.

 

Over Lewis' tenure the only pick that I've ever really been upset about was Jermaine Gresham. Not because he was a bad player, but because we could've had Dez Bryant. Obviously other players haven't panned out along the way, but that was my biggest gripe in Lewis' draft history. I'd say he has earned the trust of us fans over the year. Just my $.02 take it as you will...

Oh and any pick that could possibly mean the end of Brandon Tate is an awesome pick to me!

Sports illustrated gave them a B+ and cbs sports also gave them a B+.

 

I think the Bengals did really well with their last few picks and that helped bring their grade up. They filled needs but filled them with talented guys who fell further than projected. I honestly think every draft pick this year will make the team. Both tackles obviously. Both TEs, the linebacker may start actually, the two defensive backs will make it, then the wr probably makes it because of his return abilities. So for a team that returned most of their starters, to have a draft where all guys probably will make it shows overall the draft was solid. So hopefully their play backs it up. Only problem is that Dalton is still the Qb and that is the main reason for their failures when it matters most.

I had to take a day and kind of digest this. When you look at the roster, there really is no glaring weakness at any position. This draft definitely was trying to steal a few players at the top to build for the future.

I agree, that to judge a draft the day after it happens is just silly. It takes two to three years to see if these guys pan out and if they stay healthy to be able to contribute to the team.

 

The thing I like is that the days of taking a big name to sell tickets are gone. Kijana Carter or Jeff Klinger, now those are some bad Bungle memories. Love Marvin or hate him, he has an eye for football talent. They are truly stock piling talent for when the big paydays come for several guys next year, and will have to let some walk they can plug in the newer guys and hopefully not go back to the 4 - 12 years.

They also did pretty good signing some college free agents. I can't wait to see the Watson kid he is 6'2 240 pound running back. Watson broke all of Christian Okoye's running back college records.

Whitworth says he wished the Bengals would have reached out to him to let him know they were taking two tackles.

I like the draft and I really like the second pick. Bengals had him as a coin flip first rounder so to get someone with his versatility to help out this year is great. Smith is fat and Whit is getting up there so we have an immediate replacement if needed and down the road we probably have our bookend tackles for the next ten years.

The Bengals have always loved their bigger strong offensive line guys. So it was interesting to see that they when with two more athletic guys at tackle. Maybe its a sign that they are changing their philosophy on the line.
