Simon Kenton vs. Scott 2015

Featured Replies

Cool ! Answers the question? It draws mainly to Sk . Are the numbers down for talent at Summit View ? Is that due to Turkey Foot and Twenhofel, and Woodland drawing kids ? Sounds like Summit is more an over flow middle school.

I can give you my thoughts, which is a 30 minute speal about this and that, summary, Athletic talent at Summit View is down as a whole yes. Due to other teams, maybe some. It just is what it is.

Scott is doing some really nice things and they are starting to really draw/keep kids in the program. That being said, they won't be much of a test for SK. Scott's defense will not stop SK

Scott somewhat is keeping talent . Sk is too big with talent and numbers feeding in . Had an opportunity to spend sometime yesterday with a few SK followers yesterday at the swim club. They push winning and have the kids and community drinking the Blue Koolaide for sure !! They have come along way from the past !! Wish them the best of success this season !! If they stay healthy.... They will be contenders in November !!

The incoming 8th graders have some athletes that Bill McLeid has done a good job of finding and getting them to play football his upcoming season. Most did not play last year. I am not going to come out and say they run the table or anything but should look like a different team than last year.

Yes Bill has, and athletes are a start. Also have to have the FB IQ to play the game as well. Unfortunately Kenton Co schools, as well as the NKY conference does a very bad job in working with these kids in the offseason to improve those things.

What can they do to help the kids? In the off season?

To start, be allowed to hold anything off season period.

I beleive they get 10 practices in the spring, thats it, nothing else during the offseason.

Chalk talk, film reviews, conditioning sessions, physical training, skill improvement. Lots can be done, League doesn't allow it.

Wow didn't know that. My son played in the NKYFL. At that time I felt he was getting better coaching. His coaches over the years with them.

Included 3 to 4 coaches that played D1 football. Now this did hurt him going to HS. Coaches don't know him but that quickly changed. That's why I don't buy into the I know johnnys dad so he will play. Coaches want to win and will play their best players.

In fact my son went to TF. They had a very good 8th grade team. I think they won the large school that year. At a pep rally the coach told the kids that didn't play for TF. They would have a hard time getting playing time with that class in HS. He was wrong. The two kids that got D1 schorlships didn't play for TF in that class.

Its always good when you can mold good talent from multiple upbringing at times . keeps the competition between team mates to earn spots and not be so tunnel visioned.

There's nothing in the bylaws (at least nothing that I can find) that specifically prohibit any of those things you mention. I may be wrong, but isn't it up to the individual schools, and more specifically the school boards as to what is and isn't permissible in the offseason??

Yes it does. some kids mature fast. Their big in the 8th grade and fast. What happens when everyone else grows up too!! Seen it in basketball more than football. The 6'1 8th grade center. Who as a senior is still 6'1 and now sitting the bench. That 5'11 canter who sat the bench in MS is now a 6'5 senior and starting.

No contact with players except for spring practice. I know it was a rule because we got penalized for it because we were holding "Conditioning sessions" before spring break. This is what brought the spring practice rule (and what contact you can have with players during offseason) into play because we had been doing it for years and having an intrasquad spring game. Some teams didnt like that we were doing it, but at that time nothing about the offseason was in the rules. It was added the next year, no contact except for 8 practices in the spring, not sure what it is now.
