April 2, 201511 yr Police said they shot and wounded an armed suspect about 1:30 a.m.on La Cresta Drive off U.S. 42. The suspect was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries about 1:30 a.m., said police spokesman Captain Tom Grau. The officer involved in the incident was not hurt. He was on routine patrol when he and another officer spotted two suspicious-looking people walking down the street. Both were armed with rifles. One of the men stopped, but the second ran off. A short foot chase ensued that ended with the suspect picking the rifle up off the ground and refusing to put it down. "He was given multiple verbal commands to drop the rifle, and then at some point when he was refusing to drop the rifle, shots were fired from our officers," Grau said. The suspect was hit in the leg. Officers don't know how many shots were fired, or how many times the suspect was hit. Only one officer fired shots. April 2, 201511 yr Great job by the Florence police. 2 guys walking around in the middle of the night with rifles - something was about to go down somewhere. Thankfully the police spotted them before someone else ran into them.
April 2, 201511 yr ^Could've just been patrolling for zombies.... :idunno: Seriously though, how stupid do you gotta be to carry rifles around at that time of night?
April 2, 201511 yr Seriously though, how stupid do you gotta be to carry rifles around at that time of night? Or ever...
April 2, 201511 yr A lot of anti-government/police types do this and video the encounters trying to entice a response out of the police for their video. Doesn't sound like that was what these guys are doing, but they are one group that does it often. Deputy that lives across the hall from me came upon a guy jogging with an AR looking gun a few days ago after several complaints were called in. Guy is national guard and was out running with all of his equipment to better simulate training. Wasn't causing any problems and was told to "Carry On".

Once again, put your gun down and listen to what the guys with the badges and guns are telling you. I really hope no one is shocked or upset with the police because this guy was shot under these circumstances.
April 2, 201511 yr Who just walks around with rifles? You're a gun guy Deuce! KY is an open carry state.
April 2, 201511 yr These guys did not go about handling their firearms correctly and suffered the consequences.
April 2, 201511 yr Author Guy is lucky the officer shot him in the leg instead of two center mass. Probably just dropped his/her rounds low.
April 2, 201511 yr Author I do see the officer is Lt. Joe Maier. Great great guy everyone. I believe he was one of the officers on Dream Street last month and he had at least one other officer involved shooting at the rest area several years ago. And before anyone jumps to any conclusions, Lt. Maier has always been a go getter.
