Oak Hill had Rashaad Carruth, too ... but Steve Smith seems to handle the attitudes well. He suspended Tywon Lawson early in the season.

 

Rondo had some issues early in his high school career, but from everything I've heard, he was no problem at Oak Hill.

Everything I heard about was at Eastern.

NCH has a policy that when a student is suspended they can continue to do their work and it will count, sorta defeats the purpose of the suspension if you ask me. It gives the kids the freedom to do whatever they want and potentialy have whomever they want do the school work for them.

 

I just checked NCH's website and they have removed that statement off of it, on a side note they are supposed to have a celebration of winning the DIII state championship with the mayor in the High School Gymnasium tonight @ 7:00 PM.

Mayo was suspended from NCH for 180 days....

 

Unless they are counting Summer, weekends, and holidays, ¿ isnt' 180 days basically the entire school year ?

I guess I will have to buck the euphoria of many of you posters by taking the position that we should wait for the facts. I am aware that some who have posted above are, shall we say, Mayo deissenters. Some have even implied poor behavior by him at Rose Hill. That is incorrect. I know. You don't. I think his main "sin" in the eyes of some of you is that he excelled and continues to do so in basketball in a manner far superior to that of any who wore your respective colors. He made a winner, though for a very short time, out of the area doormat. That continues to haunt many in this area.

 

Before too many of you herald the alleged 180 day suspension, keep in mind that, even if true, the 180 days (assuming calendar days) would take us right up to the start of basketball practice next year- mid-October. NCH will make every effort to keep its "cash cow".

 

As for OHA, I have stated for a couple of years that a move to Mouth of Wilson would be good for both Mayo and Walker. Coach Smith is a fine coach who has been aware of Ovinton since the latter was in the seventh grade. He produces national champions with players who receive outstanding scholarships and, often, move on to the NBA. Smith could also "wean" OJ from his "hangers-on". That would certainly be a positive outcome.

 

So, fellow posters, crow all you want. I'll wait for the facts. Only one thing is for certain and that is, barring injury, Ovinton will be able to buy and sell all of us before long. As for next year, I would love the chance to welcome him back to Rose Hill. He was certainly no problem in his three years there. Now, that would cause a lot of hand-wringing and emergency booster meetings in the other area schools, wouldn't it?
