March 14, 201511 yr Seems like a job with potential, just because there are so many good players in Chicago. They don't have a lot of money and their arena is a thousand miles from campus, which hurts. Recruiting in Chicago is so competitive, too, that DePaul's disadvantages are easy to use against them.
March 14, 201511 yr Mark Aguirre, Terry Cummings and Rod Strickland are not coming through that door!
March 14, 201511 yr Mark Aguirre, Terry Cummings and Rod Strickland are not coming through that door! Heck, not even Quentin Richardson or Cleveland Melvin are coming through that door.
March 15, 201511 yr The question comes up every time this job comes open, is it still a good job? If they throw $1.8 million at whoever it is like they did with Purnell's initial contract, hard not to think it's good. He was making $2.2 million as of today, I believe.
March 15, 201511 yr The question comes up every time this job comes open, is it still a good job? Whether it is or isn't, they will have a lot of options. Question becomes what happens with Billy Garrett Jr., who is outstanding, but whose father was on OP's staff.
March 15, 201511 yr It was a good job for a long time, I think it still has the same potential. You have to win Chicago though, which DePaul did for years. Still in a power conference with plenty of TV exposure. All the negatives about facilities etc., have been around forever. Howland's name sounds as good as anyone's. I really don't remember what happened at UCLA, but he went to three straight final fours.

March 17, 201511 yr Similar to the St. John's situation it some respects. Very similar, right down to the same conference. Good analogy. St. John's never fell to the depths that DePaul did for a time, and they've maintained enough connections in NYC to keep somewhat of a pipeline. But, the analogy is right on.

I knew it was pretty bad and ugly. Didn't care enough to really follow it at the time though. Fair to say he either totally lost control of the players, or just didn't care.
March 17, 201511 yr I'll throw out Bobby Hurley as a guy I think should get a look and would be a good fit.
