What role should players have in chosing a head coach?

Featured Replies

Maybe I have misunderstood this post, but where have I said that the players should be on the search committee that hires the coach like they did?

I have said the players should not be involved when it comes to the interviewing and actually picking the who the exact coach should be! What I have said is that they SHOULD talk to the players before they begin any of the interviewing process and just see what they would like to see in there next coach. This was the committee can atleast take into account what the players opinions are on what kind of coach that they think would help them the best, and this could help the COMMITTEE make the best decision possible on the coach that would be the best for the team!!!

I understood and agreed with you the first time.:D :thumb:

Maybe I misunderstood what you were trying to say. I agree about asking the players what type of coach they would like to see. However, in this case, one of the players on the committee told the admns. and parents on the committee that if you hire this certain coach, that he wouldn't play because that coach had a reputation of having too much discipline. They ended up with a coach with no discipline, who they helped select, and they did whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted, and ended up 3-7 and no playoffs.

In post 59, I was saying you were right in players not having a say. I think you thought I said that you were right in the players being on the selection committee. You said they shouldn't be and I agree with you. I understood what you were saying in the earlier posts.

:thumb: Yeah I just misread what you said there, my fault. But yeah definitely no school should ever have a player a committee like they did. I cant believe they had the player on the committee and listened to when he said he wouldn't play because he the coach had to much discipline. IMO he must not have been someone that really cared about football then, because if you want to be a good team you have to be a discipline team and want to work hard.

So I agree with you because no school should EVER let a player be on the committee that actually decides who will be the coach. The players should before the interviewing process be able to give their opinion on what they want in a coach, but that is as far as I believe it should go!

The player in question on the committee was lazy and had to work too hard under the previous staff.

No player is bigger than the future of the program! Period.

Agreed. But the people of E. Jessamine thought different. In essence, they have taken 2 steps backward.

While I am for player/parent input, I agree that players should not be on the selection committee. They can give their input, but the decision HAS to be made by the committee and the admins.

Hey the grownups just play politics when making a decision like this. I say let the kids try it once. Instead of hiring some dope just because hes a board members cousin. The kids will hire some guy just because he can burp "sweet home alabama" or is the all time champion of resident evil 2. Which is worse? Some BOEs in this state are better off run by 15 year olds than by the 3 year olds who are running them now(cough cough magoffin cough cough)LOL!!!!!!!

I hadn't thought about that angle. Hmmmm, ....
