I swear I think I lost 10 pounds tonight with how hot/humid it was in there. Started to cramp a little bit on the way home.

 

That heat/humidity also made things dangerous. The walls were sweating well before the game, and condensation on the playing floor made things really hard for the players. Lots of slipping and sliding.

I love the atmosphere, but they really need to cancel the boys 5th from being there anymore.

 

No offense to Bardstown, because I love everything about their program, school and no bigger fan of Boo Brewer than me. But, could you imagine how much worse it would have been had it been a Taylor vs. Adair/LaRue/Green/Marion game? The closer proximity of the schools. Plus, being one horse towns that would have brought (or tried) just as many as Taylor piled in there (2/3 of the crowd I thought).

 

Why it's not at Central Hardin every year, I have no idea. I'm not so sure Nelson and Marion could have taken in all of the people that wanted to get in there tonight.

I'm confused by all the Taylor County hate. Several people say that they talk a lot of trash but also say Quentin doesn't say anything. As quiet as Day Day Sloan is, I can't imagine him saying anything. I take it the other 3 kids on the court do all the talking?

The only Tech of the game and flagrant foul were both against Bardstown. With that said I didn't see much trash talking from either team to honest. Guys from both teams were making plays and going 100%. The TC and NH game had WAY more trash talking than the game last night. Yes the 2000 final against ETown and Marion in Green Co. they closed the doors as well. Before the Taylor Co. players arrived at the game it was already at least 200-300 TC fans waiting in line, and this was actually before the doors were opened. It was like a road game for Bardstown as 3/4 of the crowd were Taylor Co. fans. IMO that reason it's not played at CH each year is because other schools in the region will feel as it's an advantage for the Hardin county schools. It was close to getting were the floor was to dangerous to keep playing. IDK rather they decided to not turn the air on in the gym, or waited to late. But sitting in the stands I felt like I played 20 minutes tonight. It always seemed to me that TC was in control of the game even with Goodin on the bench. With Goodin playing his normal minutes it could have got real ugly I believe.

That was the first time I had seen them play all year, so I can't say if it's on a regular basis or not. Secondly, it was region final in front of 2,500-3,000 people. They aren't the first team to get chat it up a lot. Emotions and the spot light get all of us at some point (s) in our lives. I get it. So, I'm not making any judgment calls (again, the first time I saw them).

 

.....but, Quentin Goodin, hands down the single best player on the court and in the region was as cool-calm-collective as ANY big time player that I've ever watched. Even when he got the two fouls called on him in the first 15 seconds of the game ( I thought were very questionable), he merely gave a raised eye brow look over over to the bench & that was it.

Really respect Taylor County's schedule this year. Cincy Moeller and Wilmington, as well as another tournament featuring some out of state powerhouses. Nice job by their staff to get them involved in some good competition.

Sounds like a little jealousy from some 5th region schools. This is the first time since 1983 that Taylor Co. is in the Sweet 16 and all year nothing but complaints about them. I think some 5th region teams don't like the fact that they have a young, hardworking, and enthusiastic coach that is building a winning program that will compete at the top of the region every year. You have to wonder about how cancelling the last game of the season against Hopkinsville would effect things. That should be a great 1st round matchup if Hoptown beats Webster, which they should.

Quentin is the leader of the Cardinals, with his play and his trash-talking! In the N. Hardin semi-final his was warned at the onset about trash-talking. It seemed to me he was smirking as they were warning him. The warning was an idle threat, because his mouth kept yaping the whole game along with the smirking and head bobbing. Sloan came to Taylor last year fixin' to show these country boys some stuff. He was a hot dog with no relish. I have been quite impressed with his exempleary demeanour this year along with his steady-eddy play. His play has shown maturity beyond his age. But he dissapointed me in the final by taunting after a good play. The Cardinals exude confidence on the floor which is appreciated, but their court-demeanor is disturbing at times.

The NH game it was a lot of trash talk, but it was from BOTH sides. I agree with the above post that it seems that a lot of folks are just hating on the new kid on the block. The 2 fouls that Q were probably the worse 2 calls ever in a regional championship game.

I agree that Goodin plays with a pretty good deal of maturity as far as how he stays even-keel. He sometimes reacts in the moment, but he's gotten a better handle of dialing it back to avoid any extra stripes attention.

 

Berry, on the other hand, and Webster to a lesser degree, do some jawing.

I wouldnt say Webster as much as Berry, but yes he does. I dont think any of them are as bad as their coach.

Knowing Coach Gatewood a little bit, I can honestly say that regardless of how you feel about him, he's a really good coach.

 

He runs excellent sets. He plays to the strengths of his individual players. He's also a really good scout. He prepares his teams well.

 

Love him or hate him, he's having success.

He gets no credit. He's coaching an all star team. He walked into the best prospect in the state and brought two kids from Louisville with him. If he won the region with local kids, great. But he's not. He created an AAU team that anyone with just basic basketball knowledge could have led to a region title.

I am going to agree with CoachQ on this and you are able to feel the way you choose. But I do want to throw another perspective. First off, Coach Gatewwod is very animated and emotional. That can be a double edge sword. Bobby Knight comes to mind and he is a great basketball coach that opposing Big 10 fans could not stand, but Indiana fans loved. Outside of the Big 10 you had people in both camps. You could call coaches like that polarizing to a degree.

 

He sought the job at Taylor County knowing Goodin was a young player with tons of potential. But any Coach who took that job would have gained that advantage so that can't be held against him. What if he did not develop as expected or what if Gatewood has been a part of his development? Whatever way it went, he would either get the blame or he should get some of the credit. The Louisville kids are very different situations. Coach Gatewood has been a major part of David Sloan's life for a long time. He coached David's brother at Moore and was close with David well before he approached high school. David is part of the Gatewood family and anyone who knows how well that has been for David that cares about him is grateful for the care & love the Gatewood family has given him. Berry's family is from Taylor County and returned "home". That he got two Louisville transfers one part of his family and one a kid returning to his families home makes them sort of locals anyway.
