You will be surprised what a girls team can earn in one season. I totally agree. It's about scheduling and not necessarily traveling. You can travel all you want...but if you don't play good teams, it's really just about the experience of traveling! In most cases in NKY, you could most likely put a schedule together in our tri-state area that would challenge 95% of the schedules in KY and play within 30 minutes of our school. Because we are so close to Cincy and Indiana. So traveling does not equal "strong schedule". I'm not saying that's what you or CAP is saying, but some do feel that way. "oooo...they travel, they must be good!" Not always the case.

 

At the end of the day, I too wish our schedule would have been more competitive. But a lot of the teams on our schedule are typically pretty darn good and just many of them happened to be slightly down this year all at one time...of course except SK!!! :ohbrother:

Highlands has come in a the favorite in the past. I'm thinking Allens senior year? I'd imagine if Coach Richey looks at her coaching career so far and the tems she has had. she would admit that they should have won a regional by now. Now I didn't see the game agains HC but the final leads me to believe Highlands underachieved in that one. Really the goal would to be overachieving in March and I don't think we can say that has happened.

So you got me looking at the last 10 years or so because I'm retired and have nothing to do let's take a look. Allen sr year according to Khsaa was 09/10. They were 19-9. 10-4 in region. I don't think they were the favorite but what do I know I didn't see them play. Here's a look at the past performances.

2014 region lost to ND by 8. Reg season lost to ND by 7

2013 region lost to ND by 19 Reg season lost to ND by 15

iMO I really can't see where they had a huge disappointment, no more than all the other teams that play each year. It's seems the team that beats them in the post season is a team that beat them in the regular season, several times by less. I did also see they have not been upset. Maybe once the year Conner beat them but that year Conner won the region. Maybe you should be saying when will Highlands pull the upset and win the region. This year they had a chance but so did several other teams. Let be honest next year they will most likely need to upset Holmes to win it.

Not disagreeing with anything you put here. I will say that HC did exactly the same thing in the first game. We had a double digit lead in the first half against them. They had an outstanding third qtr and tied it up. Then we played even with them. So knowing the HC did nothing different in the first game and you watching this game and how out of sync the Birds were (again, everyone in the gym knew they didn't look like they did all year), there was something that must have been different on the Birds side. If anyone on here has watched them at all, they knew something was up with them. They were not who they were all year and they didn't execute like they did all year.

 

As for the schedule...it was down IMO. A lot of that had to do with the teams that they typically play and have good programs, were down. So I agree their schedule wasn't overly challenging. But when Sacred Heart, South Oldham, NCC, Conner, Boone and ND are all down in the same year, then that's what you get. Heck, even SK is down and they won their region. HHS beat them by 21. They also beat Mason Co who won their region by about 17. And lost to Owensboro Cath in OT who lost in the finals of their region by 2. Just a lot of down programs this year. But your right...looking back, the schedule turned out to not appear very strong.

 

Sacred Heart didn't have a down year. You can't judge a team by how they play at the very beginning of the year. It matters more how they are playing at the end of the year. Sacred Heart had a 20 win season putting together a very competitive the last half of the year. Their losses at the end of the year to top teams always came down to the end of the game.

I agree, but up here I think they are getting labeled as "down" because they weren't in their typical "top 5" spot all year.

HHS played 7 non-local schools

HC played 13, however only 9 if you take away the All A that HHS is not eligible for.

Holmes played 12, But I wouldn't say that about 3-4 of those teams helped prepare them in anyway. In fact, they would have been much better off playing local teams! So essentially they played 8. Settle down Bulldogs, it's not a shot.

So after looking over the past 18 years Highlands has only won the region twice. the School that you say I love has won 3 times in the same amount of time.

 

Also, Let's take a look at making it to the regional championship game 12 out of the past 18 years Highlands didn't even make it to the regional championship game. The school I love has been 7 times in same amount of times, so when we say never then yes history doesn't lie and my friend this is the truth.

You are completely wrong! HHS won it back-to-back in 1999/2000 and 2000/2001. And they may have won it even more earlier than that.
