You did not hit a nerve, Just hate to hear people use excuses. Everyone is hoping that Scott County falls or Highlands or whoever wins. Why not say they are doing something right. Maybe we should look at what they are doing and see what we can do to get to their level.

I think that it would be the opposite of Shelby Co/ Collins honestly. I think that Scott Co. would stay strong & the new school would not do good @ athletics for a while (IF they added athletics @ the new school initially)

New High School coming to Fayette County in 2017 as well on Winchester Rd, (Exit 110 off the interstate) school is not named yet, no principal hired or anything as of now. Athletics will be the last think that they think about even though the design plans look intriguing to say the least. This school will impact Henry Clay & Bryan Station the most as it is basically located in the middle of both of these schools attendance areas. I look for this school to move up the ladder quickly in terms of athletics in the city of Lexington fairly quickly.

So potentially you could be a multi-sport athlete who contributes to everything and get zoned out of the ability to play sports????

No way in the world I can see that happening CB. Maybe they don't field teams the first year as they transition and get students settled, but I can see even that causing some issues. After that I just can't fathom they wouldn't offer athletics.

IMO, they will offer athletics. I know nothing, but I believe this is the story being told by the BOE now in order to appease the current leaders of the big time sports at Scott County. I can't see any way that the parents whose kids are forced to attend this new school will allow no athletics to happen.

That could be the case. However, no way in the world Hicks or McKee are that ignorant, they have to see the writing on the wall. And no way either coach, even combined has the power to stop athletics for being an option at the new school as I have heard some people say the do.

They open enroll their middle schools so I can see them open enrolling the new school so that if they do not offer athletics right away can go to Scott Co in order to play sports

I was under the impression by some teachers in Scott Co that this new school would be just an extension of Scott Co High School, like an academy school for students.

 

In other words the students in both schools would still be Scott Co high School.

Is there even any school in the state that offers absolutely no athletics? And I'm not talking about schools that don't offer a wide range, I'm talking zero chances for anything. Does that even exist? I really think that the "no athletics" fear is just a bunch of Chicken Little-ing, because that would be such an absolute anomaly in our society.

 

Besides, regardless of how anyone feels about athletics in high school, the numbers show that there is an absolutely overwhelming positive benefit for student athletes in high school. People can talk about concussions or PED's or take the student first approach, but the numbers are very clear: athletics offer a very positive return on students. Period.

If they do that then they will have to keep that building under the scope of "Scott County High School" if any student attends there & wants to play athletics. By the rules of the KHSAA, you cant attend one school & participate for another school (even if the sport you want to play isn't offered @ said school) just my 2cents.
