I pretty much was raised on Chesapeake Bay seafood. Blue crabs, clams, oysters and that true delicacy - soft-shell crabs. Best sandwich in the world is a BLT with a deep-fried soft crab on it.

 

And although fiercely loyal to my roots, my favorite seafood is a perfectly pan-seared sea scallop.

I was about to mention to him that he may give shellfish a try, probably not raw oysters though lol. I like all seafood, raw oysters included, never had raw clams. I've found that a lot of people that don't like fish, still love shellfish. It's hard to find someone that doesn't like crab or lobster, even if they won't eat grouper.

I used to work concessions at Cincinnati/NKY festivals in the summertime just for some extra cash, and to be sociable.

 

The Seafood Fest was my least favorite to work simply because of the smell.

 

All the garbage cans wreaked of nasty half eaten fish that had been baking in the scorching hot August sun.

 

What a long weekend those Seafood Fests were. :puke:

Yep. Last fish sandwich I had at Frisch's was two fish sticks on a stale bun and had to beg for tartar sauce.

Okay ... you guys have me wanting to get a Frisch's fish sandwich and check it out. I rarely get a fish sandwich when I eat out so it has been a while since I had one.

I love and have tried most types of seafood, don't believe I've ever had a softshell crab though. Not sure where to find one either, other than the area you mentioned. I'll put that on my list though.

Tainted oysters aren't very common in this country, but it does happen. There was an outbreak years ago that affected a lot of southeastern states. I was on vacation in Naples, Florida with the family and we went to a seafood buffet, I usually shy away from those, but we had good luck at this place in the past. My aunt ate a few raw oysters, I went up to get a few myself, the guy in front of me took everything left.

 

Long story short, the oysters were tainted and my aunt became severely sick. I can't imagine what the guy that stole the oysters I was after felt like. But again, its not common, the key is to find them fresh. I still eat them raw, but not from a buffet.
