Thoughts on this week's rankings?

I'll start.

 

I think Central is capable of winning the 7th Region and I am thinking no one will want to see them in March if Central makes it to the 7th Region tournament.

 

Wayne County is coming, 12th Region. They are coming for their third straight regional title. Can anyone stop them?

 

The 11th Region is ridiculous. Ridiculous. The 43 District is a must follow district tournament. 3 of the 5 teams are deservedly in the Top 20.

 

The Catholics are all bunched up again this week.

 

Despite Trinity's loss to Lafayette I think 2-4 are interchangeable. Ballard is without a doubt #1. They've earned it.

I like these rankings better each week. I might drop Doss a little, but that's about it. Maybe add LCA in there over Lincoln County, but I'm kind of an 11th homer and think that they just came out flat after such a big, emotional win over Lex Cath to lock up #1 in the 43rd.

I'll let it slide given the Catholic hangover and that they probably learned their lesson after taking GRC lightly. Still one of the best in the 11th.

If you're gonna float in this pool, you can't have a big win one night, lay an egg two nights later. With that said, it wouldn't be a shock if they represented the 11th at Rupp. I have serious doubts with that track record they can string that many wins together however.

Not trying to start a debate,,but I have seen all three teams play more than once this year,,LCA is the better team. GCR is not in the same conversation with LCA and Lincoln,,just my 1 1/2 cents worth.

I too think LCA should be ranked. They came into our game and thought they would blow us out....which I thought they could too. But the VERY best GRC has played this year....by far. We even put together 4 quarters.....:lol2: and our bench play was outstanding. No one in the 10th could have beat us that night.

True. I agree with what you are saying.

 

I think GRC is a sneaky good team on a night like they caught LCA on as well though. Last year they had Doron Lamb come in and lead a pep rally before the Catholic game. That's how big of a deal the whole thing is to them.

 

LCA isn't used to beating Catholic and hasn't been out of the district tournament in the school's history. That's one of the biggest doubts I have about them because you love their size, and it's just not something many high school teams in this area can match. They are sneaky athletic too, I'm a big fan of both Rose and Trimble and don't think that people realize how athletic Rose is or how skilled Trimble is. Rode is starting to grow on me some too, but I'm not sure where his ceiling is. King is the young kid of theirs with the more potential of the two if you put a gun to my head and make me choose today. Good depth with Nighbert, Stein, Schact, a few different kids who can do some things. They'd really be humming right now with a healthy Trevor Hill.

They also had the advantage of having both Dunbar games fairly early while Dunbar wasn't Dunbar. If it actually goes down tomorrow night and they go across town and beat Station at their place, then I'll definitely say that they're firmly top 20 and the GRC game was an anomaly.

 

Should be interesting to see how things play out in the 11th. Right now, I think there are 6 teams with a legitimate chance at winning it. Lexington Catholic, LCA, Bryan Station, Dunbar, Lafayette, and slightly behind those 5 is Henry Clay, but they aren't as far out as people might think. Would be surprised to see anyone else win it, and that now includes Madison Central, but could definitely see a team like Scott County, Madison Central, Tates Creek, Woodford County, whoever, beating someone in a one-off either.

 

If LCA and/or Dunbar get that first district win, they become the team I really don't want to face. Getting over that hurdle for either of them would be huge in terms of what it does for their confidence, and that's when things could really start clicking for them.

 

However it works out, I'm going to be fairly shocked if the 11th Champion isn't from Lexington.

9 ranked teams lost last week and the few teams on the outside looking in lost as well. It was a super muddy process last week. It came down to just how good are those teams overall.

GRC was going through a tough team transition during the Mason and Scott County games.

 

That was no anomaly against LCA. That was GRC being GRC.
