February 10, 201511 yr That's on the coaches...need to put rules in place to keep kids in line if its a problem. Its also a great time for kids to get some rest and get healed up, since they are out of school. Really? How do enforce a kid is in the bed by 11 or 12 ? Asking a lot of your coach there.

February 10, 201511 yr Just wondering how many of the tourists to the Somerset area are from Kentucky. Is it 50% or 75% or higher? JD, do you know? Buckeyes and Hoosiers have to make up the highest percentage.

February 10, 201511 yr Author Buckeyes and Hoosiers have to make up the highest percentage. Maybe, but they are the most obnoxious so it seems as if there are more of them than there actually are :lol2: A ton of people from NKY, Lexington and Central KY down here on the weekends.

I've had middle school coaches call the house the night before a big game to remind my son to go to bed. If MS can do that a HS coach could too if it was an issue. A lot of worrying about your kids is dependent on the amount of character and player leadership on the team.
February 10, 201511 yr Fall break is a great time for people to make doctor and dentist appointments that don't have to interfere with school. Many families also like to take a fall holiday. In general, a period of mental relaxation is good for kids. Correct if I'm wrong but I think the local kids go to school about 6 weeks , then take a fall break -- baloney in my book . Get rid of some the breaks and actually attend school ! You have fall break 1 and fall break 2 and christmas break and those " teacher only " breaks and spring breaks and off for too cold and off for the threat of snow .. Cut some of those breaks and start school around Aug 20-25 and you could still get out by 3rd week of May . It worked forever .

They get one week around the 9th or 10th week of school.

What worked when we were kids has changed in that the Legislature mandates at least 170 school days now. When we used to start around Labor Day and get out before Memorial day we were only in school around 160 days. We even got around 3 weeks for Christmas back then and still had a shorter school year than today.

I read this board in August when your hs team had discipline issues when school was going on. Coach needs zero issues. Fall break is an issue.

My wife hasn't experienced one of those yet. I do agree. Wasted time with fall break .

Fall break is an issue. Most calendar committees don't worry about sports, not should they. Starting later is going to affect spring sports big time going into June, especially softball and baseball. One of the hardest decisions a id makes as a senior is missing a state tournament game for graduation. It happens almost every year when school goes into June. They think about teacher breaks and student remediation time. Is it needed? Not necessarily, but it is not harmful at all. Hurting football is a lame excuse in my mind not have a Fall Break.

They weren't fall break related or staying out too late, so I don't know what the comparison is except you trying zing me. Bottom line there are hundreds of fall sports teams in soccer, volleyball, golf, cross country and football that don't seem to have issues with it. If a team has issues its on that team...players and coaches. Not fall break.

Fall break provides a little more time for that. Almost like opening the barn door. Should the team, players, and coaches control themselves? Yes, but again it's unnecessary with all the small breaks in the fall.
