February 6, 201511 yr ...what would have happened if Chris Henry hadn't taken the turns he did? Had this discussion today about it, and sadly, I hadn't thought of him in a long while. Man, what might have been.
February 6, 201511 yr He was a really special talent. If he kept his head on straight he would have been one of the best WRs in the NFL the last 5 years IMO if he put it all together.
February 6, 201511 yr That was one of the most horrible and tragic episodes in "sports" that ever happened. Still makes me sick to my stomach to think of what transpired.
February 6, 201511 yr He was the closest ting the Bengals ever had to be Randy Moss like. Unfortunately his actions led to the untimely death. Sad as it is, he was destined to be a foot note. He was my favorite draft pick the year he was drafted. The Bengals needed a speedy WR to pair with Chad Johnson and he was the perfect match. Just sad that he never got off on the right foot and then when you thought he was turning his life around for the better he steps back into trouble and because of a domestic fight he ends up dead. Very sad and such a waste of talent.
February 6, 201511 yr Author Interestingly, after his autopsy, he was discovered to have the brain issues from repeated concussions and was, at the time, the only active player diagnosed (after the fact, of course). Gotta wonder if it played a role in his behavior.
February 6, 201511 yr If my memory serves correctly, wasn't his act getting better before his death? Dang shame what happened.
February 9, 201511 yr What happened to him was sad and truly changed a lot of things with how the Bengals did too. If people remember in 2009 the Bengals had a great defense, and strong running game. Before he got hurt and then his death the Bengals passing game was not great but very solid. It was actually exactly what you would want in a team. Defense, running the ball and a passing game that would be there if needed. You had Chad, Coles, Henry and Caldwell. They showed when they had to pass they could win games with it as evident as the late game wins over the Steelers and Ravens. With Henry's ability to go down field, teams had to keep safeties over top of him, and that also allowed Chad to be single covered more. However once he got hurt and then his death, Palmer really didn't have any weapons to throw to because with Chad being the only weapon and losing a step the passing game was hurt.
