You commit somewhere, honor that commitment, with obvious exceptions such as violations, coaching staff changes, etc. I actually don't mind that recruits flip. I hold grown men with ties to massive institutions of higher learning to a higher standard than high school kids... maybe not explicitly fair or even-handed... so sue me.

Kid could have easily told UL he was not coming and guess what that is fine with everyone. Even if the kid told them he was committed to UL. So because the University changes their mind 2 days before its a crime! Early signing period solves some of these issues.

Just reinforces everyone's opinion that Petrino is an awful person. Why wait until 2 days beforehand? It was known they needed more depth at DB for weeks.
February 5, 201511 yr Are we seriously rationalizing dropping a kid this late by saying that other schools do it? Its terrible. As for taking risky kids, most teams do that at some point. 2nd & 3rd tier teams often have to do that to get top of the line talent. If the player is good enough, most teams won't turn them down and you can't blame them. Good kids don't often translate into wins. At the end of the day, coaches have to weigh taking bad players and winning. Its a shame, but its also reality. If Bobby wins 2 games this year and doesn't take risky kids do Louisville fans give him a break? I think not. Bobby is a heck of a football coach. Terrible history of personal choices. I don't know that I'd want my kid to play for him, but the man can coach football.

I understand he's your coach and what else can you do but back him. But people are going to hate Petrino and he never really helps his case. If the article is correct and it was an assistant that informed the kid then maybe that's why he didn't want to wait. If it were me and the boss didn't even bother to give me a call about it, then I would see the writing on the wall.

Didn't think about that because I would assume if I'm the one in charge and someone commits to me and something changes, I would be the one to reach out and explain those changes. Just a phone call to explain that 'hey we still really want you, but here's what we got to do now'..

They could have done it differently. But people saying they pulled his scholly and are outraged by it are misinformed, and really only care because it's UofL. Sure Petrino has a troubled past, but does that mean they aren't "allowed" to use a common practice in college football to try to get the best players on their team?

It was known they needed more depth at DB for weeks. I think his reason was foolish. I agree he knew he needed DB's. So I dont buy that as a reason. I will continue to say Recruit is the nasty side of football. Both sides IMO have the option to change their minds at any time. A lot of coaches spen a lot of hours trying to get kids to sign. Think about how those coaches feel after a kid changes his mind after he committed to them? Kids cant have it both ways.

You have to remember that it was Petrino and UL, and that most of us are UK fans, so it's different, and obviously worse...

It is not common practice to do it 2 days before signing day.
February 5, 201511 yr It is not common practice to do it 2 days before signing day. Which is why I said they could have handled it differently. Again, the reason this is a story here is because it involves UL/Petrino... Not because it was two days before NSD.
