Should have asked for the greyshirt from the kid three weeks ago and given him elsewhere to look.

Recruiting is a part of athletics that tough Business decisions have to be made. Problem is many folks do view it as business. Every kid has a chance to change their mind at the last minute. So why should Universities not be allowed to make the same type of judgement. My own son had the same done to him. Yes was upset. But bottom line it was a business and not personal.

The high school that the kid went to has banned Petrino and his assistant from ever coming to that school again...I guess they don't look at this like it is a normal thing...probably because of the timing, which is not good. Why would any parent want their kid to play for Petrino anyway??

When you have the reputation, perception is the most important thing for people. Lots of teams may do this sort of thing, but Petrino's image makes him an easy target for people who hate this sort of thing and want to put a face on it. I don't care for the practice and don't mind Petrino getting dinged for it. Kid was offered a scholarship and he accepted. Now UofL tells the kid "If you want to go to college this fall, find a way to pay for it yourself." I get that it might be standard practice... doesn't mean I like it.

Petrino is an outstanding football coach. I'd want a coach like him coaching my team. He's also an outstandingly horrible human being, and as such, when he does stuff like this, he's going to get crucified for it.

Yeah, I saw that Holgersen did the same thing. Equally as pathetic. You'll have to ask the thread starters why that thread didn't get started. I'd imagine it's because he's not universally known as one of the worst human beings in football. And yes, I despise the fact that college football recruits flip all the time. It's stupid. You commit somewhere, honor that commitment, with obvious exceptions such as violations, coaching staff changes, etc.

They just pulled the scholly. According to Demling, at least five other schools did the same within the past two days.
