#21 for The Colonels is a flat out stud. He was doing everything he could to get in younger Cumberland's head. .

My man has been known to do that occasionally.

Clyde, I was going to try and find you and introduce myself. Probably saw me and my little one on the opposite side of the Colonels bench, in the front row. We were the only ones in Blue and my little guy was a bit animated by the win. Heard a couple of people making comments that we should make our way to the other side.

I did see some blue over there. I would have enjoyed meeting you and your boy.

21 is Cooper Theobald - my favorite story of the year. To be honest he just wasn't very good last year. Tentative. Limited minutes. Didn't fare well when he did get in.

Joe Fredrick was in my ear all summer saying "just you wait and see." Sure enough he was right. Amazing what hard work and confidence will do for a kid. Finishes at the rim about as well as anyone. Pull up J in the lane is money. Plays hard. Strong handle. Got a little fire in his rear end. Not afraid to have conversations.

Turned himself into one you have to worry about. Had 19 tonight.

Of course, that would have required you to put your phone down for 15 seconds. :sssh:

Doing my CCH civic duty.

My initial reaction would be to pass on the younger Cumberland if I'm a school like X. 6'5 220 or so. Not quick. Not sure who he guards in college. Plays with ZERO fire or passion.

Pass.

Jarron wasn't close to 100%. He suffered a hip pointer on Saturday and played through it. While he isn't the most nimble kid out there, I was told from a Wilmington source that he struggled with it all night.

In the times I have seen him, playing with passion/fire hasn't been a problem at all. He will likely have to play the 3 in college because he struggles a bit laterally, but the kid gets buckets at a big time level and has done so against numerous high major wings on the AAU circuit.

Defense will be an area that needs development for sure. Of course, I'd probably pass if I was X as well. The roster is chock full of high skill talent on the offensive end that can't play a lick of D...

Gotcha. He looked disinterested tonight.

It happens. Would also explain him being disinterested in talking to me after the game about the recent X and UC offers... :lol2:

Dude is really thick. College level thick already.

Dude is really thick. College level thick already.

The running inside joke is he "Looks like a Bearcat". Have to imagine Huggs will try as hard as possible...

Wilmington had better hope some ballers move into town.

Their JV team was one of the worst I've seen in a LONG time. Dreadful.

UC assistant Larry Davis stopped by a Covcath practice over the summer and told Fredrick he liked Coop more than CVH. Tough kid.

I think you misunderstood what was said. Davis said he was really impressed with Cooper. Never said he liked him "better."

UC was in the gym tonight watching Cumberland and CVH.

Did the Colonels accomplish all their goals tonight??:sssh:

Relax.

From the Wilmington (OH) News Journal:

No. 2 ‘Cane suffers first loss

WILMINGTON - The unbeaten streak for the No. 2 ranked Wilmington boys’ basketball team has come to an end.

Defending Kentucky state champion Covington Catholic took down the Hurricane, 68-65, Monday night at Fred Summers Court.

WHS is now 14-1 on the season. The Colonels, who improved to 17-4 ,outscored the Hurricane 23-13 in the final period, erasing a 52-45 deficit.

“We did not play the kind of game we’re supposed to be playing,” said WHS head coach Mike Noszka. “Tonight, we simply did not follow our game plan. I felt that our shot selection in the final period was very poor. We had them down by a good margin, but did not play very smart with the ball. It seemed like we just did not play with a lot of emotion tonight.”

For the first time this season, Wilmington found itself trailing at halftime, as Cov Cath took a 37-35 lead into the locker room.

“Giving up 37 points in the first half is inexcusable for us,” Noszka said. “We challenged them at halftime to come out and play better defensively and they responded.”

Wilmington claimed the third quarter 17-8, but Cov Cath was too much in the fourth quarter. Just like in the second period of play, Wilmington let the opposition score 23 points and it was too much to overcome.

WHS fought right to the bitter end, and nearly forced the game into overtime, but some last-second heroics came up short.
