With Lex Cath, Cov Cath, Highlands and Boyle Co. gone, They are my pick to win it all in class 4A. Anything less than a state championship will not necessarily be a disappointing season, but will be less than expected. Also looks like they strengthen their non district schedule, which is great and will prep them for the play-offs.

I know we are very thankful to be fortunate enough to have things align the next two seasons to play a quality team like Lexington Catholic. This is a game that will definitely prepare us down the road, exposing a lot of holes early on and give us an ample amount of time to work towards solidifying. With what Lexington Catholic returns we very well could get our doors beat off but at the same time it will be a great learning experience.

Not a great district, but that isn't Johnson Central's fault. Games with Lexington Catholic and Belfry will be terrific tests. Fairland and Harlan County were originally good pickups that kinda of fell off. It will be interesting to see who they snag in Week 3.

Johnson Central has reached the point where they're in the discussion of the top team in their class every year. They have to be considered one of the favorites to reach the finals.

Week 3 options?

Nothing to my knowledge. With school being out and summer basketball going on it has been rather difficult to catch up with the AD to discuss. A lot of weight was put into trying to get Beechwood recently but was unsuccessful. An ample amount of teams were contacted prior to the Beechwood effort but could we were unable to get a bite. I know NCC was contacted for this particular week but they may have already been in discussions with Belfry prior to because that game was listed on each team's respective schedule not long after. Ironton OH was contacted again but preferred both games being in Ironton. North Laurel, St. Clairsville OH, Morgantown WV and several others were also contacted regarding that opening to no avail. Clinton Massie was entertained but some contractual items could not be realized by both parties. Again, something may currently be in the works but I have not heard.

Topic has kind of been beaten to death but to answer your question:

- JC has never backed out on a team as far as I know

- JC has had a great number of one year contracts with lesser teams

- JC has had a issues because either they insist on either a Home/Away series... or dictate that the first game has to be a home game. They have reached out to very strong programs that share open dates numerous times only to have it fall apart because what the other team was asking was one sided in JC's viewpoint.

 

 

I kind of feel bad for Johnson Central. Geography landlocks them to an extent. When there are only a couple programs in EKY on the same level.. and no elite school in WV really wants to play you because of their playoff system.. and Southern Ohio isn't necessarily littered with large, strong programs.. it does make your options limited.

 

A perfect example is Cabell Midland, WV.

Cabell Midland is much larger than JC and one of the Top 5 teams in WV year in and year out.

Cabell Midland and JC have scrimmaged numerous times.

Cabbell Midland will not play JC in the regular season.

Belfry... a school with less than half the enrollment of Cabell Midland... calls and immediately get a two year series.
