What about the crappy teams?

What about them? They need to win in the district to advance to the regional, but not by getting lucky in a blind draw. This answer your question?

That reminds of a funny story I heard several years ago about a young assistant coach of the 3rd best team in the district. When the pairings were revealed and he saw that his team drew the worst team he jumped up and hollered like he won the power ball. The rest of the staff was so embarrassed.

Not at all. Somebody said that nobody wants to see the crappy teams in the regional only by them getting a favorable draw.

My question was - what about the crappy teams?

Maybe they want to see themselves in the regional. Just a guess, no science behind it.

Khsaa should have stepped in long ago and made everyone seed, makes no sense for a handful of districts to draw.

KHSAA doesnt seed the wrestling state tournament either so it makes perfect sense.

Here is the crux of the matter.

In football, the KHSAA mandates that district opponents play each other once. Results are used to seed. In basketball, they do not.

Why is that?

I could have made a mistake but I only found 4 districts (38th, 39th, 44th, and 55th) that do a blind draw.

Maybe I don't have to look now. :) (my intent from the start)

I am sure they do, but they don't deserve it and that is why seeding is better and should be mandatory for all districts in basketball.

54th has an interesting seeding methodology. They seed using the Cantrall rankings on the day of the district tournament meeting.

At least they do for the girls. Form says Girls District Only.

I am sure they do, but they don't deserve it and that is why seeding is better and should be mandatory for all districts in basketball.

And to be clear, I don't care one way or the other. I understand why certain teams/districts don't, but it really makes no never-mind to me.

I remember years ago we had a 3 team district and it always seemed that #1 and #2 played in the first round and #3 walked into the regionals. I hated that.

^^sounds like your school of choice is a annual participant in the regional tournament and explains why you feel the way you do about the "crappy" teams. (Your word not mine). But coming from one of those schools a blind draw on a down yr is a blessing. Until you have experienced it through the eyes of a school that isn't a yr in and yr out participant then how can you say the heck with them?

With that said I'm in favor of seeding but am not 100% opposed to the draw. Yeah in the grand scheme seeding is the best way to get the best game in the district final but still not a guarentee.

I understand that your team may hardly ever make it to the regional and when they do the players and fans are thrilled, but I also realize that a more deserving and better team won't make it to the regional because the adults feel pulling names out of a hat is better, but it isn't because you are possibly rewarding a team that didn't prove themselves in the regular season. Win during the regular season against the teams in your district and you will be rewarded with a higher seed and a better chance to make it to the regional the fair way.

I think in 3 team districts they make you seed?
