Best Sweet 16 of all time

Featured Replies

I'd vote 1985

Clay County had Farmer and Asher

Hoptown had Quarles and Ware

Mason County had Feldhaus

Paintsville had Pelphry

Doss had Maurice Jones

Apollo had Chapman

Lex Cath had a very talented team, but no names come to mind

soooooo much talent in that one, I'd also give consideration to 1974 when Male had Dr. Dunkenstein and Bryan Station had Goose Givens.

Ill take the 87 or 88 with the Battles of Farmer and Alan Houston

I personally like 1976

I will take the 1968 year. Lee Co was underdog to Danville by 18 and beat them by 18. They were underdogs to Clark Co and beat them. They lost in OT to Seneca on Saturday morning. Glassgow ended up winning that year.

Lee Co had Larry Stamper that went to UK. Park Congleton that played at Old Dominion.

Danville had Lenard Colter that played at Morehead.

Clark Co had Larry Gay that played at Florida state.

Seneca had Mike Lehan that played at Louisville and Darrel Bishop that played football at UK.

Dang. Even I was practically in diapers.

Bad thing about it is that it probably won't be too long until I'm in them again.

Yes, I'm easily humored, but I can't stop laughing at this one.:lol2:

Glad I could tickle someone's funny bone this morning. Heaven knows I'm too old to...

...never mind.

2003 and 2008. 2006 gets a special nod as my daughter got chosen to participate in the National Guard halftime shootout.:thumb:

1998 for me. First one I went to the whole thing with my family (at least that I could remember). Was in middle school and got to see the team from the high school that I'd be attending go.

Great games, including the Scott County vs. Lexington Catholic semi-final that is one of the best high school games I've ever seen. OT games between Lexington Catholic and PRP, as well as Eastern and North Hardin.

Loved watching the Highlands teams (that year and the next). Same goes for PRP.

Lots of star power in terms of the players who ended up playing in college. Patrick Sparks, Rick Jones, AW Hamilton, Shawn Fields, David Graves, Matt Heisenbuttel, Jared Lorenzen, Derek Smith, Todd Tackett, JR Van Hoose, Joe Sykes, Tyler Zornes, Duane King, Kevin Paschal, Mike Griffith, Blake Downing, etc. Know I'm probably leaving some of the kids from Eastern or other teams off as well.

:lol2: I know how old you are. You got to remember that last year made 50 years that I have been attending the Boy's State Tourney. I have seen lots of great games but the 68 tourney ended up being special to me.

Im partial to 1981 tourney. Troy McKinley and Simon Kenton vs Feldhouse and Mason County. At the time the championship game was largest crowd in history for hs basketball championship

I think my favorite was my first one: 1974. I knew a little about Kentucky high school basketball from a distance...but up close and personal, it was unbelievable.

As mentioned earlier, Darrell Griffith, then a sophomore at Male. Jack Givens at Bryan Station. Robert Miller, the 6'10 center from champion Louisville Central. Kenny Higgs from Owensboro. The jumping jacks of Warren East. And "my" team was there.

It was the 2nd straight year of an all-Louisville final, and the 2nd of 3 straight with an all-city final (Male vs. Henry Clay in '75.)

I'm a young buck but the 2011 Sweet 16 was the most exciting one I can remember.
