April 5, 200620 yr You are right on the mark. In the last 30 years. 20 in 4A, 6(5)* in 3A, 1 in 2A, 1 in 1A. So 28(27) of the last 120 = 23.3%(22.5%) * Hopkinsville had a state title vacated to Cov. Catholic. The ones left out are a little more lopsided, girls basketball, girls volleyball. I am not sure what girls and boys cross country would look like though. Boys and girls tennis would be interesting too. How about boys golf? Just a minor note. Cov Cath won the game 21-13. Hopkinsville was runner-up and vacated that position. So no need to asterisk that one in your comparison.
April 5, 200620 yr Same would go for swimming. I think it is now call the St. X Swimming Championship. Maybe other schools should have swimming pools like St.X and there would be more competition.

Thanks for the clarification. The way they make it look in the record book is that Hopkinsville won the game because they make the score 1-0. I would think they would leave the score the same if Cov. Catholic ultimately won the game.

April 7, 200620 yr Run First - I think the argument is pointed more toward domination from a few schools. Sure the privates do not have that many championships persay in the last 20 years in these sports but there are not that many privates to begin with so the percentage belongs to an elite group of schools. I don't think the past 20 years people have been complaining, I'd say it was more like the past 5-10 years that people have started to see a few privates win A LOT.
April 8, 200620 yr I think if you look at the very short term, the last few years, then it appears the non-public schools are winning a larger proportion of the championships. Over the longer term they are slightly ahead of proportion in some sports and have clearly dominated some and are below proportion in a few. I want everyone to compete for the same trophy. My question is, why do the non-public schools want to compete against the public schools? Many of non-public school supporters feel that the athletics at their schools are superior due to alumni, hard work, coaching, etc. Remember I am against the split, but I am interested to hear the opinions on this. My opinion is that we want to compete against everyone public and non. If don't compete against everyone how do you really know your the best?
April 8, 200620 yr My opinion is that we want to compete against everyone public and non. If don't compete against everyone how do you really know your the best? Fair enough. I have the same opinion. I like beating everyone non-public or public schools.

It sounds like you are saying as long as the private schools don't win, everything is OK.
April 11, 200620 yr Privates have steadily dominated cross country at the A and AAA level over the same time also.
April 11, 200620 yr How many parochial grade schools have cross country teams across the State ? I know that there are some in NKY and at least 1 public elementary school has a team , Southgate .
April 12, 200620 yr Privates have steadily dominated cross country at the A and AAA level over the same time also. Dominated? Not so. They have had success in team competition in Class A, and in Class AAA Girls, but there are twelve different winners counting individuals and teams. Domination? Are we back to another "depends on what group of years and what narrowly based statistical analysis we want to use" to prove our point kind of post?
