Highlands 62 Ryle 60 OT

Highlands traveled to Union tonight and got the win in overtime.

 

Bluebirds were up 8 early, lead shrunk to 4 at half 31-27. Game went back and forth in the second half. HHS had a shot to win it in regulation but the shot rimmed out. Winning bucket scored with 3 seconds remaining in the OT.

The Highlands Bluebirds basketball team earned its first 9th Region win on the road Thursday.

Highlands (4-8) beat Ryle, 62-60 with three seconds left in overtime. Senior Justin Weyer hit the game-winner on his way to 13 points. The Bluebirds are 1-5 in region action.

Three more players hit double digits for the Bluebirds. Mitch Cain led the way with 16 points and Nick Kendall had 13.

Highlands continues 36th District action Saturday at Dayton. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

As I have said on numerous occasions on these same airwaves, Highlands can certainly play with most if not all of the teams that are in the middle of the pack in NKY. Game was much closer than it should have been, but a win is a win no matter how many ways you slice it and dice it. Birds go for 3 straight on Saturday as they travel to Dayton to take on the Green Devils in a district seeding match.

I know Ryle is coached well with McFarland out there so you can bet they play hard. Solid road win for the Birds.

 

Looks like the Footballers are starting to play themselves into Basketball shap. Cain, Weyer, Kendell all have had some nice games as of late. Hergott and Hebel are going to have to step up in the paint as the season progresses though.
