49ers to name Jim Tomsula head coach

Featured Replies

The San Francisco 49ers will promote defensive line coach Jim Tomsula to head coach, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The 46-year-old Tomsula, who has spent the past eight years as San Francisco's defensive line coach, would replace Jim Harbaugh, who parted ways with the Niners on Dec. 28 to become the new coach at the University of Michigan.

The Niners missed the playoffs for the first time under Harbaugh by going 8-8 this season en route to a disappointing third-place finish in the NFC West.

Hmmm. Not sure how I feel about this.

Okay, so the 49ers basically let one of the best coaches in the NFL go because they didn't like him as a person and they let him go for the Defensive Line Coach? Wow. I guess they just wanted a Yes Man.

This makes no sense to me. I guess we'll see how good he can coach.

I don't like it.

That's exactly how it comes across.

As a 49ers fan...I'm concerned. This stinks.

This is like when Paul Brown hired Tiger Johnson instead of Bill Walsh...

Seems really dumb on the surface...guess time will tell.

It will be interesting to see if Vic Fangio stays and who leaves with him, if he goes.

I'd be too; you would think someone at least somewhat proven would come in after what Harbaugh did while being there. It leaves the impression that ownership/management wants someone "loyal" to what they want.

Might work out for San Fran... But at face value, this move doesn't scare me as a Seahawks fan.

Just saw that he wants Kaepernick to run more....Yeah, because that works out so well for everyone else. :lol2:

And before anyone says it, yes I know Seattle does it with Wilson, but he's infinitely better than Kaep IMO, and he's the exception not the rule.

That gives me hope. Kaepernick running the ball makes San Francisco a good 10 points better each game.

Seen earlier Lane Kiffin is one of the front runners for the OC position.

Please God, don't do me this way
