You kinda swing both ways on taking lives and even innocent lives don't you? In the case of capital punishment, you clearly say we shouldn't use capital punishment for the reasons you state below...

I'm with CWB. Horrifically tragic and can't imagine what the Officer's family has went through these past 17 years.

I agree that there are some who don't belong on this planet.

I simply morally don't believe we have the right to take a life.

JMO, but aside from the whole religious reasons for opposing capital punishment, there's the whole fact that it's a barbaric practice that should be beneath us as a civilized society.

Because it's a barbaric practice that only the most uncivilized countries still allow.

Because there have been far too many people either placed on death row or executed that have later been found to be innocent (obviously not this guy).

Because the guy was diagnosed with multiple mental illnesses and disorders.

Because it goes against everything I believe as a Christian.

Those are my reasons. I imagine CWB's are pretty similar.

Omega Man said:... Small % of people have been executed by mistake and I'm guessing they were not on death row without any priors.

you replied...

The bolded makes it okay?

But just a couple of days ago you were OK with mass extermination of a people because they MAY be terrorist and you even said that if a few innocents were killed that it would be OK...

I know it'll never happen due to the potential ramifications from other "Super Powers", but I'd love to see us drop a couple well placed nukes on that entire area.
This kinda sounds barbaric.

I don't want to kill innocent people. That's why I said "well-placed". Find the areas that intelligence shows are major "bases" and eliminate them. Sure some innocent people will die, but that's the case in any type of force-driven operation.
So killing innocent people here intentionally is OK, but the chance that someone could mistakenly be killed by execution isn't. How is killing innocent women and children OK in this scenario? If you Nuke that area even with "Well Placed Nukes" many many innocents will die, no way around that.

I don't care what your position is, but you lose some credibility being so high and mighty and taking the moral high ground in this thread when your ready to kill thousands and thousands of innocents in the other thread.

Somebody is way too hung up on me. :lol2:

As I said before, I'm not trying to convince anyone to change their views or opinions, and I'm certainly not trying to act high and mighty. Lord knows, I'm nothing close to that.

If you want to take things I've said from a completely different thread topic, that isn't even remotely related and try to use them for a "gotcha" moment in here be my guest.

...if you take into account the priestly code from Numbers. I'm sticking strictly with what God said in Exodus. Not with what man interpreted.

I have no doubt in my mind the bible is referring to "innocent blood". This man is no innocent.

Now, to delve further into my beliefs...though I am a proponent of capital punishment in certain cases, it has it's weaknesses and I have no problem with life in prison if that's what is given. Some of that however has to do with the fact that I believe 50 years in prison might actually be worse on the guilty in many cases than 15 years and then the "release" that death brings. And for someone like this guy, a tough punishment is more than deserved.

Somebody is way too hung up on me. :lol2:

No gotcha moment, not hung up on you, just pointing out hypocrisy. Threads are different but killing of innocents is OK by your account in one thread while killing of CONVICTED murderers isn't in another one.

Have a good one!

1. it is barbaric, but it is the law in this civilized country.

2. Small % of people have been executed by mistake and I'm guessing they were not on death row without any priors.

3. He was and is a danger to others due to his illnesses and disorders.

4. That's the tough part about being a Christian and being OK with the death penalty.

5. Your reasons are valid and mine are different than yours.

To #1-not the whole country, it's a state-by-state decision

To #2-my hugest complaint. In my mind, ANY % of people who are innocent and die is too large a % to play with.

Would you say it's more or less hypocritical than those who claim they're "pro-life" because they're against abortion, all the while being ever so supportive of capital punishment?

I'd say there's a difference in executing a murderer vs killing an innocent unborn child, wouldn't you?

You can't be Pro-Life and support capital punishment... JMO.

Absolutely. Just as there's a difference in what he was trying to compare as well. That's my point.

And I'll still say it's absolutely hypocritical to call yourself pro-life if you're in favor of a practice that ends life.

You can't be Pro-Life and support capital punishment... JMO.

Sure you can. One is absolutely mutually exclusive of the other, they are worlds apart.

No, by the very definition of the words, you cannot be Pro-Life and Pro-Capital Punishment.

How can one claim to be pro-life while they support a practice that's sole existence is to end life?

they are worlds apart.

No, they aren't. In both instances you are ending a life (that's how Pro-Lifers view abortion), so you can't be Pro-Life and support the death penalty.

One is ending an absolute unaware, innocent life. The other is ending a guilty life who knowingly committed an atrocity(ices) to a specific person/people and to society in general. WORLDS apart.

How can you be Pro-Life and support ANY action that results directly in the loss of life?

The same way I can be pro-life yet if someone was trying to harm my girlfriend or her daughters that I helped raise or my little 14 month old "step" granddaughter, I would blow them away in a second if that's what I needed to do to end it.
