Owensboro 62 Apollo 61

Featured Replies

Darion Morrow lead OHS with 22 points. Justin Miller had 13 points and Holman had 6 points, 13 rebounds, 7 blocks, 3 assist, and 3 steals per Mark Mathis twitter.

Eli Wright had 23 points, 16 rebounds, Coomes had 13 points, and Moss had 12 points.

Also stated it should be a week or two before Young is playing with Apollo.

OHS flat out played poorly until the 4th quarter. Holman has to rev up his motor if OHS is to achieve their goal. OHS plays zone exclusively and that played right into apollos hands. drake needs to mix up some man defense because playing zone all the time allows less talented teams to stay in the game if they're hitting the 3. When OHS pressed and played some man, Apollo really got shook. I think OHS should go zone for 2 or 3 minutes a quarter then break out some man. If they get in foul trouble, OHS can always fall back into the zone.

While Eli Wright didn't hit a 3, he carried Apollo in the second half. He is pretty much unstoppable when he drives to the basket. Moss gave Apollo good production with his shooting and Coomes did a wonderful job against Miller. Apollo missed a golden opportunity to get a win against OHS. In retrospect, it may have not been the worst thing for his to lose because they Devils need to turn the intensity up when they play city teams. OHS gets everyone's best shot and that's just the way it is. I've watched Apollo play 4 times and this is by far the best they've played.

Also big props to Darrion Morrow. This kid is pure ice water in his veins stone cold killer. I would venture to say that he's been OHS' best player this year. At the end of the day, this game doesn't mean a lot as these teams will probably play 2 maybe 3 more times. Both teams will be playing in the Muhlenburg county classic today as OHS will take on bowling green and Apollo will take on Hoptown.

As for the Trace Young thing.....I always want the best for kids. I believe in giving kids the best opportunities to succeed. However, if e KHSAA allows young to play for Apollo this season what's to keep other families from renting apartments mid season to live in a district just to get eligible? Young moved to avoid discipline at Ohio county and he shouldn't be rewarded by being allowed to play this year. That's my two cents. (Which doesn't matter). On the flip side if, Young suits up, they better beat OHS. It'd be a shame to have 4 staters that didn't grow up in district and still not be able to win lol.

First I've heard about discipline for Young at Ohio County

Young hadn't been playing for Ohio Co. up until his transfer but he was on their bench. Don't know if he was injured or being disciplined thgh.

58 there is absolutely nothing stopping a parent from renting an apartment year to year and changing schools year to year. Doesn't happen that often but if it did it's within the rules. Sucks for the schools losing kids but it's just the way of the world it seems. I'm excited to see Young play for Apollo. The 9th district may have as much talent as it ever has this year.

He actually played in Ohio County's first 3 or 4 games and was averaging close to 20 ppg. He was sitting out due to disciplinary reasons.

I agree, but the move is mid season and primarily to get trace back on the court. This is a dangerous can of worms to open up.

At the end if the day I say let him play. It'll just make it that much sweeter when OHS wins the region. :)

Trace actually had a hip flexor injury. That's why he wasn't playing the last few games at Ohio County.

Expect him to be eligible for Apollo by the middle of the month.

Winning block by Holman...

@thehomers1027: This HUGE block by @AricHolman wins the game for @OHSsports!!!!! #WOW http://t.co/RKLhuOstZf

Just now making it to a computer as my work schedule has been insane this weekend. Im not even going to comment on the Young situation. Right or wrong, i do suspect he will be playing this season for Apollo and ill leave it at that.

This game pretty much defines why i love high school basketball. The crowd was AWESOME. For a regular season matchup, that was as packed as ive seen Eagle Arena in quite some time. If youre an Apollo guy, like myself, it really sucks to lose this one. I thought Apollo completely out played OHS throughout the game but reverted back to being a 1 man show in the 4th quarter. Not that Eli shouldnt be running the show, but Apollo was playing much better when they were moving the ball and getting contributions from everyone. I think they are still growing as a team. Long ways to go yet. I thought Apollo's zone frustrated OHS a little bit.........well everyone but Eagle killer himself Darion Morrow, that is. He kept the Devils in the game with big 3 after big 3. I love what Caleb Coomes gives the Eagles. That kid gives 110% effort at all times. I thought he played a terrific game vs Justin Miller and battled for tough tough rebounds throughout the game. Hats off to him. At the end of the day, i see Apollo turning the corner. Coach Barker is starting to put together the pieces and i suspect these two teams will meet a few more times. Trace Young or no Trace Young, i saw an Apollo team that can beat Owensboro on any given night.

On the flip side if, Young suits up, they better beat OHS. It'd be a shame to have 4 staters that didn't grow up in district and still not be able to win lol.

Cheap shot alert........cheap shot alert...........:ohbrother:
