7 Things I Can Do My Black Son Can't Do

Featured Replies

Depends on who you ask. Again, tell poor white people that have been that way for generations about their white privilege and see what their answer is. I think more is socioeconomic, not some. I see blacks raised in the same economic status as their white counterparts doing quite well. A lot depends on where you start and again, there are an awful lot of white people at the bottom too.

Were they put there by black people?
What year is this? Do we not have a black president? Is everything today still going to get blamed on what happened generations ago? How did whites get there? Surely their white privilege should have kept them out of that situation, right?

There are no doubt privileges to being white, however in today's culture there is an ever growing facet of white culture that shoots themselves in the foot by doing such things as covering themselves head to toe with tattoos, and wearing gangsta wear, going out of their way to look as threatening as they possibly can, and presenting themselves as thieves, thugs and drug addicts.

They could have easily have taken advantage of the social benefits of being white, but because the tough image and certain lifestyle that takes priority over anything else with them, they're giving themselves absolutely zero chance to make anything of themselves, and anyone with any decency can read them in a heartbeat, and arouse suspicion from any law abiding citizen of any race.

White privlige ignores all other problems of all races . Socioeconomic factors are the root of almost all problems in the present .

If you want to say rich people have privilige over the middle class and poor people I can agree with that. But in a free society there will always be different classes of people. But a majority of white people are not rich and have dozens of their own struggles.

Socioeconomic or money or the color green impacts more than the colors of one skin.

And I disagree with the statement by your professor 1000% . Do some people have to work harder than others because of where they start in life , yes they do.But everyone has opportunity in life to advance some of us just start much lower on the ladder. But where you start in life is no excuse for you as an individual not to try and advance .

I grew up in a lower middle class neighborhood in Covington . I worked full time while going to college full time to get ahead in life. I had friends of a variety of races who most chose to blame where they started instead of working to get out and now they are a drain on society. So with all due respect your proffesor can take his simple world view some where else.

What you just posted is a clear example of white privilege. It doesn't ignore other problems. It shows that a lot of people are in the situation they are are in because OTHERS put them there. Also, false on the claim that anyone can climb out out of poverty if they work hard. Did poor white people get denied a loan because they were white? Did poor white people get denied a place to live because they were white. Did white people in general get denied anything because of the color of their skin by black people. You simply act that it is no big deal that some people have a big head start over others in life. You say you lived a lower middle class neighborhood, there are black people living in very poor situations and the burden can be to great. So, to act as if because YOU didn't grow up the greatest situation, black people can achieve the same you did is silly. So in all due respect, you can take your silly world view and take them somewhere else.

Didn't answer the question. Were they put their by black people? What does Obama have to do with anything? Did he specifically put in policies to screw white people over?

Were they put there by black people?

Ok. I have to step in here also.

This is has always been my pet peeve when it comes to racism and race relations etc.

What happened over 200 years ago has nothing to do with little Johnny living in OVR today.

guess what? Mr White did not put Mr Black today on welfare. Quit blaming things that went in long before your great great grandfather was even born on circumstances of today.

I did answer the question. This isn't the past. Obama is an example of why this isn't the past and how things have improved, unless you want to say he got half white privilege. :lol2:

Ask coal miners if they think he put in policies to screw white people over? In that part of the country, they'd perhaps say yes. Do I think he did, well I don't live there, but I'd say no.

Again, mostly playing devil's advocate here, but I do believe today, it's more about socioeconomics than race.

What I'm saying to you about the past is, if one wants to let slavery, something that's been abolished for a long time now hold them back, then they are doomed to forever fail. It's those that are poor and want out but are stuck in a vicious cycle that I feel for, and than includes all races, not just one.

We're they put there by black people? How stupid of a question is that? Were they put there by white people? The answer is no.

btw I have been turned down for loan before. I guess it had nothing to do with not having the collateral but everything to do with me being white, just as Mr Brown being turned down for a loan had everything with him being black and nothing to do with him not having the collateral

Get real. This isn't 1950

My pet peeve is when people say something as stupid as this. You act as if 200 years ago is thousands and thousands of years ago. FYI, slavery wasn't the only form of discrimination. There was other ways as well. Also, you should know what happens to your great great grandfather has an effect on your great grandfather and so on and so forth. So, yes! What happened 200 years ago DOES have something to do with people living today. That's why people study history, so they can know why things are the way they are. "guess what? Mr White did not put Mr Black today on welfare." Really, how pathetic, because welfare was the form of discrimination that affected black people the most.

You got denied a loan because you were white? BTW, not a stupid question, this thread turned into a talk about white privilege and not being discriminated against or have policies put in place to screw you over because of the color of your skin is a privilege. The people who benefited from such a privilege were white. Not everything can be blamed on racial discrimination and I do get that, but to act as if that doesn't play big hand is silly and the only person who needs to get "real" is you.

I would say no about the coal miners as well. Also, slavery wasn't the ONLY form of racial discrimination. It isn't about black people being held back, it's about the hole they have been put in and people acting as if "What? Just get out." That plays a big deal. I'm not saying you Run To State are like this, but some people like to think that the forms of racial discrimination should be tossed to the wayside and not be considered or act as if they don't have some effect on how things are today.

Very true and well said, but at the same time another big problem is hanging on to things of the past and use them as an excuse for things today, and that does go on...a lot.

You do know some things happen and hold some people back because they are white don't you? The same as you say black people are held back because they are black. It does happen both ways which is sad, and it happens when the decision maker or person of authority is black or white.

You are wrong. It's thinking that something that happened over 200 years ago as an excuse to why someone isn't successful today

Now as far as the welfare remark, isnt it quite ironic that a black president has put more people on welfare than ever before in history?

Okay, let's back away from the personal comments and discuss the issue at hand. The topic seems like a worthy one and I don't want to have to shut it down due to rules violations.
