I didn't want to take the thread to where RCC9 has to jump in.

Just thought it was odd that an invitational tournament would be during regular school hours.

Is that because so many of the schools are private?

Some of these "small schools" can be known to bring a large following to Frankfort even during regular school and work hours. Just so it is known, these aren't free days for schools. Schools are accountable for every minute of the school year. If a school dismisses class for the All A, that day gets made up just like a snow day. Last year schools were faced with big decisions because they had already missed so many days due to snow.

Okay, since this isn't about the tournament and I have a honest question. So then you're saying that a public school district can decide to say, take next Wednesday off "just because". And that's okay as long as they make it up?

I'm so proud of you! Keep it up! :thumb:

As a former member of my local district's calendar committee I can honestly say yes. We typically throw in a day between MLK and Spring Break just to make a little break. We also mark it as a make up day in case of snow. Bottom line is that we rarely get it, but when we do, it gives the kids and staff a three day weekend over that long haul. Also, the BOE has the ultimate control and can change as they see necessary. That, too, has happened.

Thanks! I really didn't realize that. I guess I felt there were "allowable" reasons...weather, safety, facility issues, etc.

I think NewCath and HHS already bake those days into their calendars.

Does Mercy play in the All A? I heard they might be. I didn't think they have in the past and I see where they're in the LIT on the 27th. Thanks

By the looks of their schedule on Riherds, it doesn't appear so.

So if Highlands were public and an all "A" school and your beloved team were in that situation what recommendation would you have for the school and students? Academics or support your team? Willing bet $20 on the answer!!! Do not mean to question you and respect your very enjoyable post but just curious in this situation if the scenarios were different

You're not choosing between academics and athletics. You're postponing school for a day and either adding a day to the end of the year or making up that day on another scheduled off day. State requires you be in school at least 1062 hours and No less than 170 days of 6 hours or more.
