Lexington Catholic 2015 Schedule

Featured Replies

Want to give a shoutout to LEX for posting the schedule in the 3A thread, I thought I'd do a CovCath style breakdown of the schedule.

8/21 @ Boone County

All-time record= 2-0

Instead of closing the regular season with the Boone Co Rebels, as the Knights have done the past two seasons, LexCath will play their opener at Boone. Boone County is coming off two long seasons but the 6A team should be improved.

8/28 Henry Clay +

All-time Record= 1-0

The only Lexington public school to appear on the Knights 2015 schedule are the Henry Clay Blue Devils. Clay is coming off a season where they went 7-3 with the Lexington city championship, a 3-way tie for the district championship, and a first round loss to 6A state semifinalist Meade County where they came 1 yard away from picking up the road win. The Blue Devils UK commit Davonte Robinson and one of the top running backs in the state in JoJo Buford.

9/4 Johnson Central

All-time Record= Never played

The Golden Eagles from Johnson Central will be one of the favorites in 4A next season. JC finished last season with a perfect regular season record, including a 35-0 win over 3A state champion Belfry, and a second round loss to Covington Catholic.

9/11 Covington Catholic

All-time Record= 4-4

Despite being in 4A together the last few seasons the Colonels and Knights never matched up due to the Highlands Bluebirds. CovCath is considered a contender for the 5A state title next season. This past year they went 8-5 with a loss to Highlands in the Regional championship.

9/18 @ Madison Central

All-time Record= 8-0

The Knights will continue their series with the 6A Madison Central Indians. The Knights have never lost to Cenral but last season's game was less than a one score game.

10/2 @ Cooper

All-time Record= Never Played

Catholic will travel up to Northern Kentucky for a game against Cooper. The Cooper program is young but has become very successful, finishing as the 5A runner-ups in 2012 and last season 9-5 and a 5A semifinalist. The Jaguars move up to 6A next season and return a top RB in Torey Cordell-Armstrong.

10/9 Western Hills *

All-time Record= 7-0

Catholic will open up district play in 3A with Western Hills. The Knights have never lost to the Frankfort area team. Western Hills is coming off a 5-6 season.

10/16 @ Boyle County *

All-time Record= 11-11

Catholic's arch nemesis, the Boyle County Rebels, drop down to 3A this season and remain in their district. LexCath defeated the Rebels twice last season, both at home, and won the district and regional championships in those games. Boyle finished last season at 11-2.

10/23 Garrard County *

All-time Record= 5-4

The final district game is against the Golden Lions of Garrard County. Garrard County went 9-3 last season winning their district championship. They lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs to a talented Bourbon County team they had defeated earlier in the season.

10/30 @ Southwestern

All-time Record= 2-0

Catholic will finish the regular season against the 5A Southwestern Warriors. Southwestern won their district last season but lost in the regional championship to Pulaski Co, the 5A state champs who they had defeated earlier in the year. The Warriors are coached by former Boyle County head man Larry French and played 7-on-7 @ Catholic last year so there is familiarity between the 2 programs.

+= Bluegrass Bowl

*= District game

Breakdown by Class

6A=4

5A=2

4A=1

3A=3

By Area

Northern KY= 3

Lexington Area= 2

Central KY= 3

Eastern KY= 2

Teams with Golden in their mascot names= 2

A more than solid schedule.

I would have liked to have seen Lafayette on the schedule to keep the 'Backyard Bowl' going and the win by the Generals gave that series some spark. But I knew that HC wanted on the schedule and so a new rival may take place.

As usual, except for district, every other game is against higher classes.

Garrard County and Lexington Catholic had a nice rivalry for eight years in the 1990s. Garrard dominated the first four meetings, winning every year from 1993-96 when the Lions and Knights were in the same 1A district. In 1997 both schools moved to a 2A district and Catholic won all four of those meetings. Lexington Catholic also beat Garrard County in the second round of the AA playoffs in 1999.

(As an aside, Lexington Catholic's losses to Harrodsburg in the 1A playoffs in 1995 and 1996 were taken especially hard around Lancaster, because if Catholic had won those games, the regional finals would have been at Garrard! Alas!)

1993 - Garrard 54, Catholic 13

1994 - Garrard 49, Catholic 19

1995 - Garrard 30, Catholic 13

1996 - Garrard 33, Catholic 14

1997 - Catholic 34, Garrard 20

1998 - Catholic 30, Garrard 0

1999 - Catholic 43, Garrard 14

1999 - Catholic 22, Garrard 7 (Class AA Playoffs - Second Round)

2000 - Catholic 42, Garrard 7

Survive September........

We will be losing key guys on both sides so a lot of players have to raise their level of play to survive that first wave of games. Players that played in '14 have to get better and encourage those guys that were back ups last year. I think if they can make it to the bye week somewhat healthy Lexington Catholic can play the rest of the season with confidence. Not certain what the record will be but I do believe we will face enough adversity in the regular season to make some noise in the postseason.

Go Knights

Really nice schedule. But has LexCath really only played Henry Clay one time? I would figure LexCath would play all the local publics at least once every few years.

There was a no-competition rule between the public schools and Lexington Catholic for several years that was only lifted a few years ago.

Looking at perhaps 3-1, maybe a 2-2 first 4 games...

This looks like a great schedule for Lexcath...... I like the challenges of a CovCath/ Cooper/Johnson on their schedule. Should be appropriately challenged and ready for District& playoffs. Very Nice!

I'm sorry, but the challenge that Johnson Central and Cooper brings/ give to Lex Catholic? Huh! Perhaps it's the other way around. JC has know to play weak schedule and I am sure they welcome the challenge of a contender like LC. As far as Cooper, I realize that they have been winning in their program ( 5A ), but have they advanced further than the 2nd or 3rd round the last realignment?

State runner-up in 2012

Regional champion and state semifinalist in 2014

I'm sorry, but the challenge that Johnson Central and Cooper brings/ give to Lex Catholic?

Johnson Central has dominated a Belfry program that has won the last two 3A state championships. And many on the other thread are almost guaranteeing that Lexington Catholic and Boyle will be better than Belfry. So if Johnson Central has been a challenge for the best team in 3A, they should provide a similarly strong challenge for Lexington Catholic.

Johnson Central is the reason I think Lex Cath and Boyle can beat Belfry. But by no means do I mean that Lexington Catholic is better Johnson Central nor Highlands or even Cov Cath.

State runner-up in 2012

Regional champion and state semifinalist in 2014

And that is why it was a question mark on my statement.. Thanks
