Hager had 14 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists tonight. Faulkner had 33 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Dow had 12 points, 4 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Hager does a great job at PG. He is definitely the glue that holds the team together. He can get to the rim almost whenever he wants but he's doing such a good job setting up his teammates. I think he had 13 assists in one of his games this year. Faulkner isn't going to wow you with athletic ability, he is just so skilled and has a great feel for the game. He will be fun to watch over the next few years.

Agree with everything but athletic part. Only person on the team that is a better athlete is Dow. Trevon is extremely fast and can dunk any way he wants

I felt like he was pretty athletic myself. He was dunking in pregame and seemed pretty explosive on the drive.

Agreed. Sky is the limit for him.

Hager is playing much more of a true PG role. Facilitating and dishing much more than last year. Makes more sense when surrounded by the likes of Faulkner and Dow.

 

As for Faulkner, I agree. He is a true SG. Pure scorer. I will go out on a limb and say that by the time he's done he will be the best player to come out of the 12th for many, many years. He's a special talent.

He's a good player Now and has the potential to be a good one but I don't know about being one of the greats in the 12th region. That's saying slot. I wish the kid the best and look forward to following his development but let's see how he does in big region games and against better competition before we can make a statement like that

It's a prediction and only time can prove (or disprove) my statement. I will stick with it and we will see how it pans out, year by year. I could be wrong but feel like it'll pan out.

 

As far as waiting to see how he does against good competition, it's not like Mercer's first five games have been against Brown (no disrespect to them intended). Shelby was picked 2nd in the 8th (though they haven't fared as well since the Mercer game as their best player was injured in that game and has missed most/all of the games since). North Hardin is the #2 team in the 5th region (behind Taylor and ahead of Etown). Louisville Moore lost by 5 at Bullitt East, played with Fern Creek and beat Butler by 16. So, Mercer has played three above average, athletic teams. The other 2 games were Rockcastle and Casey.

 

I'm not saying Faulkner will average 25 PPG this year. Not even saying he will keep his current pace. He's certainly benefitting from teams sagging to prevent Hager's penetration. At some point teams will start realizing these numbers aren't a fluke and have to dedicate resources to stoppimg him. If that happens, you will likely see Hager scoring more and him less. But I think Faulkner will be ok with that. He doesn't appear to be a selfish player and understands the game.

I think what BC23 is saying is that Mercer County hasn't played anyone who is better than the top 4 teams in the 12th Region and possibly not better than East or West Jessamine. To say he's going to be one of the best to ever come from the 12th Region 5 games into his freshman season is a huge statement. I think a blind man can see that Trevon is a very talented player but that same blind man can see that his success can partly be attributed to Will Hager. Trevon will have great numbers playing with Hager. Kind of like Jacob Conway with Timmy Taylor. We'll really see what Trevon is made of when Hager isn't there. There's no doubt in my mind that Trevon's success can be attributed to Hager's presence. No matter who Mercer County plays the opposing team's best defender will be on Hager and not Trevon. That has to be a factor also.

Hager is definitely a PG. That is his position and where he will play at the D-1 level in college.
