I'm looking forward to seeing how Mercer County does next week when they take on East Jessamine and West Jessamine in some district matchups. It looks like the 46th District is the toughest district in the 12th Region and that a quality team will be left out of the region tournament.

Trevon Faulkner had 33 points in tonight's contest and is staking his claim to Best Freshman in the 12th Region. I was told he did it all tonight and possibly had a double double.

 

Will Hager had 14 points.

Faulkner was the best player in tonight's game. He was knocking down 3's, getting to the basket, good in transition.

 

Dow was in foul trouble from the start. He had 2 fouls in the first 3 minutes of the game.

 

I didn't realize Hager was playing PG for Mercer County either.

 

Belmont was in the gym to watch Hager.

Faulkner is averaging 23.6 PPG through 5 games. (18, 22, 22, 23 and 33)

Agreed, East Jessamine has shown drastic improvement over the last few games. They were beaten handily by Boyle and Lincoln, but they were in the game in the first half. At this point I think Mercer has the edge with West not far behind. East can beat either team on a decent night. O'Bryan does a great job with his system, and I look forward to seeing if he can get his team in position to advance come district tournament time.

Trevon is a beast. He may be better than hager & dow by the time he leaves. His game is so smooth and such a great scorer. SW have some good freshmen but they are hold backs and older than trevon. Hager is still the guy that makes everything happen for mercer whether he leads them in scoring or not. Everyone's points are a direct effect of him setting them up

Faulkner could potentially be a great one. Depends on how hard he works and how bad he wants it. You can tell by looking at him that he still has some growing to do. Will be interesting to see how he does in the upcoming district games and against better competition

You're right his body has not matured yet and he is skinny as most true freshmen are. He is a true freshmen and not held back. Some of these freshmen are 16 going on 17 and their body's are as big as they will get. Scary thing with him is he has some growing up to do physically.

Hager is playing much more of a true PG role. Facilitating and dishing much more than last year. Makes more sense when surrounded by the likes of Faulkner and Dow.

 

As for Faulkner, I agree. He is a true SG. Pure scorer. I will go out on a limb and say that by the time he's done he will be the best player to come out of the 12th for many, many years. He's a special talent.
