Good first half by WV. Walton misses some oportunities to cut it to 5 even possibly 3 at halftime but misses a few easy baskets.

Cooper scores 23 in the 3rd and the game is over. Clinkenbeard stays on bench the whole 3rd? He is a kid that WV has to have on the floor becasue he is a hustler and will battle with anyone. Not sure of the decision to keep him on the bench! Evans from WV leads all scorers with 20 and I believe scored most of them in the 2nd half.

Don't understand the ouch comment. Cooper is very good. This is about what I expected.

This would be Matt and he is a JR.

Zach played well in the JV game and made some very nice moves and shot the ball pretty well.

Also had some Varsity minutes as well.

Hathorn and Dickerson were monsters on the glass. Was told Dickerson finished with 11 boards. Second half defense from Cooper was the difference. WV had no answer for Hathorn in the paint either. McNeil was solid. Kid can score from anywhere on the floor. It's early and both teams will get better. Strong start for the Cooper kids who were without their starting point guard just coming back from football. This group has the potential to play with anyone in the 9th. Big test coming Saturday vs NCC. Can't wait to see these teams play....Hope it's not like what NCC did to Dixie though!

Those two sentences summed it up. Walton was competing very well. I don't think they ever led, but they were keeping it within "shooting distance". And yes, if not for a bad 60 seconds finishing the half, they could have been within 5, however they were still in the game going into the locker room.

 

The third qtr. killed them. The defense that Cooper went to was a knockout punch. Before you knew it, the lead went to 16, then 20 plus. Game over.

 

And you are spot on...Walton did not find an answer for Hathorn last night.

Heard Cooper played really well even without their football players. Heard the Kuckle kid his been playing very well at the point. Saturday they have NCC. Should be a good test for them early in the season. If the football players play that should add some depth to their bench.

Kunkle played very well IMO. Handled the ball well and knocked down a couple of shots. The only problem that I saw with having him on floor at times is in man to man he gets overpower by kids that are stronger but that is going to happen when you are 14 playing against kids that are 17 or 18 in some cases. Evans took him to the hole when he tried to guard him.
