So what this says (predicts), Holy Cross and Holmes will be in the finals for the 9th region tourney? Holy Cross wining and moving onto state..... Hope HC and Holmes don't get each other early in the tourney, that will be fun on what the predictors will be then.

I don't think it predicts H.C. vs. Holmes in the 9th region final?? I think it does say there's a ton of talent in the 9th and it could be an early matchup in the regional tournament for a H.C. vs. Highlands or a Holmes vs. Highlands either way the only thing that would be more exciting for an early regional tournament matchup is if any of the three matched up in the finals! Preferably Lady Dawgs vs. Either of the other two!!!

I agree. I think it means the 9th has ton of talent this year. Heck ND, Boone and Ryle could very easily end up in the finals. All good teams! One of the teams isn't even going to make it out of district! Should be a great year. Really hope everyone stays healthy. It would be nice to see everyone play with all their strengths and best team wins! Hate when injuries influence a potential outcome.

So rankings above are based on talent (individual) and not team chemistry? How they play well together? Match-ups, Win/Loss percentage doesn't factor?

It will be an interesting year....

RCC9, how did HHS looks against Shelby Co this weekend? The #2 ranked team in the 8th.....

Well, unless there's a crystal ball involved, there hasn't been one tipoff yet. Kinda hard to decipher team chemistry, wouldn't you agree?

I don't know how these rankings came about this??? Chemistry??? Even returning all five starters doesn't guarantee good chemistry!! This is high school and new additions and or contributors can always add and change those dynamics..... its a good start and all the top teams in the 9th return tons of talent that's why they're at the top of the region preseason! With that said.....

HHS looked pretty good against Shelby Co. Think the final was 62-46. HHS offensively looked pretty good. This team is very unselfish and has a ton of ball handlers...even the bigs can handle it very well. They all have good basketball skills and excellent team chemistry. All Very nice to have. They all shoot it well too. Adler is the known 3 point threat, but I think HHS had 5 threes in the first qtr from 4 different people and Adler had none of those 5! Two came from our 6'1" center! They never run many sets in their scrimmages, so I expect the offensive efficiency to get even better. They also had two girls (from their top 8) out with injury. This team can spread you out, get in the gaps and hit the open shot consistently.

Now for the defensive side!!! BTW, I'm a defensive minded person when it comes to bball, so I can be a tough critic on D. I thought the defense was bad. However, I have no fear they will "remind" them how to play defense. I watched this team shut teams down on many nights last year, so I don't feel defense will be an issue going forward. They are long time AAU players and all know how to play defense, they just didn't do it the other day...IMO. This team is "longer" than you think. They get a lot of tipped balls that disrupt the passing lanes.

It was a good scrimmage against a good team. Shelby is the type of team that usually gives this HHS group a challenge (big and physical). But I thought HHS held their own there.

Shelby appeared well coached and should have a good season. They have some girls that can get to the basket, are big and can finish. Also think their guards will continue to develop and make them even better later in the season.

Should be a great season in the 9th. Just can't wait to get it started!

So if that's the case, how can we predict anything? Why even have pre-season rankings? Apparently someone has a crystal ball if they think the above teams should be ranked as they are. If team chemistry from the prior year should not be used, as new players come in, Sr out, then how is any of the above valid? I agree with you, nothing is guaranteed, so then why predict? That's for Vegas to manipulate to get odds on favor. Like saying the super bowl champ Seahawks were favored to return to the super bowl this year....not sure they'll make the playoffs. Pre-season is for all talk. This year, like any, will be fun to watch.

I think you may be over reacting a bit there jay. Think of a preseason poll like an educated guess. Nothing more. I'm guessing your team didn't make this list or maybe should be higher in your opinion. Am I getting warm?

There is no 8th Region team in the top 20? Gotta Think that Simon Kenton, Shelby County should be in the hunt this year

I think the preseason popular opinion is that the 8th region is down this year. Maybe with the graduation of a bunch of familiar, long time talent, and the region taking on a very new, unproven look, there isn't any confidence or precedent in who is worth ranking.

SK may be there by the end of the year, but right now, they are an unknown commodity because of their youth. Shelby has some very good big kids, and did well in the regional, but their guard play is unproven as is their ability to defend on the perimeter.

Team speed will be a problem for Shelby. They are big, but not very fast. Teams that press and run will be the ones that give SC trouble. If teams allow them to slow the tempo, SC will pick those teams apart.
