After reading all of the last few pages I just want to say how proud I am of causing two or three pages of "shots" . "pot stirring" with my one statement that had nothing to do with anything other than pride that two communities, a fan base and alumni all over the country have in a school, small class A football team. As I read through the thread I saw several comments on both sides of the debate like overconfident, happy to be there, etc. I consider all those comments about playoff games baloney and excuses - in all playoff game discussions, not just this one. If there is one player or coach in Raceland, Paintsville, or anywhere else who isn't focused and working their tail off this week, I am shocked. If there is one team that walks onto a field Friday night without focus and intensity, I am shocked. What happens on Friday night at this point in the playoffs will have nothing to do with overconfidence, overlooking a team or not being ready to play. It will be about the players on the field and the game plans and in game strategy - not anything else. Every team that gets beat bad in a big football game was flat - not. No, the reason the team looked flat was because they got beat by a better team.

 

As to this game, I think Raceland has been one of the most underappreciated teams in the state this year. They are better than they have been given credit for. I will be very surprised if Paintsville wins this one - although, not as surprised as I was with Paintsville beating Pikeville.

I disagreed with your opinion of the coaching staff last year and I haven't changed my mind. Same coaching staff this year, minus Coach Maynard. He has guided Russell to new levels this year and we are both 10-2. We were outplayed last year in Williamsburg. Now, we are all entitled to our opinion and I am around the coaches and players pretty much year round and I feel like I have a pretty good pulse on what is happening. Can coaches be good and still be outcoached? Sure. Can teams be better and lose? Sure (ask Pikeville). I don't think anyone around our team questions the players hearts or the coaches ability. But, this game is played by 15-19 year old BOYS and anything can and will happen. I prefer to be optimistic and find the good in a team and not complain too much......(I have been guilty of going overboard on the Westwood team but that has been addressed).

I am looking forward to seeing the results on this one. I think Raceland will come out and take care of business. Paintsville is coming down from one of the most emotional wins ever and I suspect they will not sneak up on the Rams.

This Tiger team, though, is a good story and Coach Chirico has done a remarkable job since taking over the reign in Paintsville. I'm pulling for the Rams, but I will be supporting the winner of this game in future weeks.

Thanks for the Vote of confidence Watusi. One thing that does concern me on this one is that in both of Raceland's losses (Ashland, Ironton) they have given up a couple of big plays that were the difference in those games and Paintsville, although not as good as Ashland or Ironton, has a couple of those type kids that can be a game changer.
