Why I love the Playoffs in KY

Featured Replies

When you know you're going to get your head beat in in round one or you're going to show up with 14 players it become an exercise of futility.

That's why I argue my point so much, the adults say "Let the kids play", the truth is, the kids, and coaches, don't want to play if they are struggling that badly.

Look at who voted for three team format, not many perennial powers:

The announcers of the game said if OSU wins this game no one from the Big Ten will make the playoffs.

I didn't realize the announcers of that game were the playoff selection committee. With all due respect they have no idea who is going to make the playoff. Oregon is struggling with Utah right now and anything can still happen in the SEC west.

In Class 1A, the majority voted for a two team format. All other classes saw the majority voting for a four team format.

I've been looking for those for two days. Thanks for posting them.

Do you have last vote for classes?

Unfortunately can't seem to find that.

The announcers of the game said if OSU wins this game no one from the Big Ten will make the playoffs.

They could be right but there are still a lot of games (and upsets) left. I think OSU is in the discussion now...probably in the top 10 when the Committee announces Tuesday. The OSU offense is very impressive right now. Putting up 49 and 560+ yards at MSU had to get some people's attention. It sure would have helped OSU (and others) if Bama would have lost though...enough about that though since it is not the thread subject. It will discussed in the college football forum.

Actually, the last vote had three options, and if I remember correctly, the majority was split between the two options not in place currently allowing the third option (the current format) to win. So, the majority were against it.

I stand corrected. #Ihateyou

:lol2: :lol2:

Again, if I remember correctly, four classes advancing to the playoffs won, three teams advancing come in second with a good number and third was two teams advancing.

And, surprisingly, the perennial powers were the most dominate programs to vote for the four team format, while the teams that struggle voted for three and two teams.

Looks like total:

2 teams advancing: 30.30%

3 teams advancing: 19.89%

4 teams advancing: 49.81%

Thanks for posting those stats even though they refute your first post. It was almost dead even between 4 teams and the other two options. I bet if the choices were only 2 teams or 4 teams, 4 teams wins in a landslide. All those 3 teams votes are going to 4 teams.

The vast majority do not want just two teams advancing.

I'm not so sure that a conclussion can be drawn in which direction those people would vote, they may be dead set against the two team format, but they just as likely could be dead set against the four team format.

But, looking at the voting does show the answer is not clear cut.

Lest everyone forgets: the only reason we have six classes is to hush the old 4A public schools who were screaming about the Public/Private Debate. That is it, it's not so more kids can experience the playoffs, it's not to level the playing field, it's not for money. It is, and always has been, to stop the old 4A schools for pushing for a separation of public and private, that's all, nothing else, nothing more.

These are the same folks who whined and moaned and begged the KHSAA to bust up the three tier system.

AAA champion was automatically a school from Jefferson county. That is not fair.

To appease the masses, the KHSAA adopted the state at large champion versus the Jefferson county champion for a winner take all. That was not fair and balanced enough. Hey, maybe split Jefferson county into districts competing on both sides of the state playoffs. Oops. Too many all Jefferson county finals. Well Lexington and northern KY schools do not like having to play Jefferson county schools unless they meet in Bowling Green. That's where we are heading right now. Will that last more than four years? :android:

So people can be happy after all 6 class state champions have been crowned. We can find a dome and there can be a 6 team playoff for overall State Champ.

Who complained in the old four class system other then 4A schools not named Trinity and St. X?

I didn't! Loved it! Earned your way in! Heck I think at one point we had 8 teams in our district with only the 4 classes and (i think) only two moved on (maybe it was 4 they too). The regular season games were awesome. Just about every week was a district game that you couldn't afford to stumble on. You had to play hard every game and you really on had 1-3 non-district games a year. Every team knew what they were up against and you had to take care of business on the field every Friday night or you risked the chance of not making the playoffs. And guess what...if you didn't take care of business, you only had you and your teammates to blame as you sat at home on the first Friday of the playoffs. Hopefully you were a bball player and could ease the disappointment of losing by making you first bball practice on Saturday morning. But if not, I can tell you the weight room was full the first Monday after we were knocked out.
