November 6, 201411 yr Sounds like Crit Luallen was named by Beshear to succeed him. Does that require Gen Assembly approval? IMO Crit is perfect for this job as far as that she isn't going to run for Governor at the end of the term. Leaving it open for (Two-Face look a like) Conway or other Dems to run for Gov without facing a sitting Gov or Lt Gov.

November 6, 201411 yr I'd not only have voted Crit for governor, she's probably the only currently well-name Democrat I'd have actively campaigned for. Big fan. She'll do just fine in that role... whatever it is the Lt. Governor does... Exactly...what does the Lt Gov do? She seems to be well liked and respected by people in both parties. I had an issue with some stuff that happened at lower levels in the Auditors Office when she was there, but I don't really put that on her.
November 6, 201411 yr Exactly...what does the Lt Gov do? They stripped that office of almost all responsibility with the 1992 Constitutional amendments. I was trying to figure out an answer to that question and found a summary of those amendments. Didn't realize that until 1992, if the governor left the Commonwealth -- for any reason -- the lieutenant governor instantly became the acting governor. That is hilarious. They also took away the Lt.'s role as President of the Senate and made that a position elected from within the body itself. No clue what that person does now.

California has such a provision, I think that over the last few years with the Gov and Lt Gov traveling I think I saw that there had been a several Acting California Governors over the last few years.
November 6, 201411 yr The Lt. Governor used to run separately from the governor. As I recall there were some pairings where the two winners didn't particularly like each other.

Gov. controversially exercised some type of gubernatorial power whilst the real Gov was out of state, if I recall correctly.
November 7, 201411 yr I think Thelma Stovall as Lt. Gov. controversially exercised some type of gubernatorial power whilst the real Gov was out of state, if I recall correctly. Stovall was under Julian Carroll, wasn't she?
November 7, 201411 yr Author I think Thelma Stovall as Lt. Gov. controversially exercised some type of gubernatorial power whilst the real Gov was out of state, if I recall correctly. Happy Chandler while Lieutenant Governor did the same thing to Gov Ruby Laffoon by calling the Gen Assembly to change the ways political parties nominated candidates to make sure he would be the Democratic nominee for governor.

November 7, 201411 yr Congratulations to Former Mayer Jerry Abramson. Although I'll be in the minority, I'm a really big fan!
