Phelps (0-9-1) at Raceland (8-2) in the opening round payoff game.

Not a lot to say obviously. Other tan this one is a perfect example of why I do not like 4 teams out of a district qualifying for post season. Phelps is Winless with one tie and the team that they played to a 0-0 tie had only one win on the season. Raceland's Two losses were to 4A Ashland by 6 I a game they should have won and this past week to Div 5 (I believe) Ohio Power Ironton by 2td's

 

Raceland has outscored their opposition 384 - 138

Phelps has been outscored 60 - 428

 

I hope that both teams come away from this one with no injuries.

Possibly a running clock in the 1st Qtr. Raceland by as many or as low of a margin as they can possibly hold it to. JV in 2nd qtr., possibly / probably Freshmen in 2nd half. I know that Coach Salmons will do everything he can to hold the score down as much as possible. With JV Subs and / or Freshmen team playing 2nd half.

I agree almost all the 1 vs 4 first rounders are no brainers but for the seniors on the losing team it is one more chance to suit up. Sometimes it is hard to keep the score down, you can't tell the starters to lay down and you want them to get some reps. In Towles' senior year Highlands was up on Boyd Co. 42-0 at the quarter and only ran 12 plays. I'd really like to see the first half be whatever the score maybe and let the running clock start in the second half. You would get more reps for the 2's and 3's in blow outs. I kept track on the 3 second quarter running clocks and the 2nd half averaged 28 offensive plays for the 2 teams combined. That was for HHS' games.

No way should a winless team ever be handed a playoff game in any sport.

I can understand what you say about getting to play one more but I have to wonder....Do they really? Shoild you look at those scores I really have to wonder if truth be told that they actually want to load up a bus, drive approx. 3-4 hours on a school bus. Play a game that 99.999 chance of getting embarrassed like they have all season. Then have the long trip back through coal country to get home.

I hate these games.They are good for nobody.The Rams don't need to have their starters playing one quarter and setting the final three this late in the season.As for the running clock I don't think it should start until the 4th quarter in any game no matter the score.Every kid on the team practices all week and the back ups should get more of a opportunity to play.

Somewhere a 7-3 Ohio team is out of the playoffs.

I think some of the starters for the Rams will sit this game out if they have minor injuries or illness. I also do not see the starters playing past the first quarter. I think this game is also pointless for both teams. Last year, the Phelps players told the Rams that they did not want to be there and just wanted to go home. There were several ties this year thanks to the bad weather in the first week of the season. Some games did not count as a contest, while others were classified as ties. The game was either: not played at all, or weather shortened and a make up game could not be scheduled.

I Last year, the Phelps players told the Rams that they did not want to be there and just wanted to go home. If they don't want to be there, I think it's ridiculous they are. I respect each opponent and they sounded miserable.

This is my argument, many adults give the "they want to play one more game" argument. But, let's listen to the players, and the players last year told you they didn't want to play this game. The same was told to you by a team two years ago. The players don't want to play these games, but the adults insist on these games happening. Seems like the adults are the wrong parties, the players are trying to tell you want they want, listen.
