Apparently you are not very knowledgable about Belfry, or Pikeville. And, if you are going to judge the quality of a team based solely on the enrollment you would probably be surprised at the football being played around the state. Might want to get out some.

To the poster... Belfry did lose to a 1A team..they also beat the brakes off 6A Henry Clay, 5A Southwestern, and 5A Harlan County.

Again guys, what does Trinity gain by playing a KY 3A school. It is hard for some on here to realize

that Trinity has played on the National scene. There is HS football, outside of Kentucky, that is played on a higher level. Trinity has earned that National identity and respect, I really doubt that they fill that 'open' date with anyone from Kentucky. Just an opinion.

I am pretty sure I have this correct but Trinity going out of state to play four to five national powers each season was due more to the fact that so many in the state would not play Trinity several years back and Trinity just needed to fill a schedule. Now that time has passed and some state schools are now open to playing Trinity, I don't think Trinity would have a problem playing a few good quality instate opponents like Belfry and maybe back off and only play two to three out of KY.

I might just do that. But, I say again, why would T entertain that? I don't see Moeller scheduling any D5 or 6 teams in Ohio? And IF, and it's a big IF, T was going to schedule a smaller school, why wouldn't they call Mayfield, the king of 1A? You guys kill me. Just because IMO T has zero business scheduling Belfrey, which to their credit they won't, doesn't mean I don't think Belfrey is any good. I am sure they are a fine team. As far as them not being "afraid", good for them. Not convinced they have played an upper echelon schedule of larger teams, those names don't do much for me, at least not any more than what Mayfield, BW, New Cath, etc play and I don't see any of those teams clamoring to play a game vs Trinity.

MalibuRunner..... well said. Some here just do not want to think "outside of Kentucky". And that is fine. They are content with their team success within the borders. But some KY schools over the last 10 years have been exposed to the 'National' lime light (Trinity, Bowling Green, Highlands, Lou. StX, Lou. Male etc). While state competition is fine, believe me when they talk and write about you, with the country's top teams, it is a whole different ballgame. Living in No. Ky., I see it in Cincinnati, with StX, Colerain, Moeller, Elder, and this year a very good LaSalle team (D2). If teams seek the exposure to that "next level", the only way you get there is play against the best you can find. Unlike Ohio, where every game counts, Kentucky schools only have to worry about their 3-4 District games. That really lends itself to looking for better competition. Outside of the District games, the others really do not matter (unless you are looking for the national exposure - then every game matters), as it should. Ky really needs to revisit their playoff system; it could definitely be improved. Really surprised some of the long timers here do not mention that more often.

A Trinity fan started the thread. Maybe he would rather play Belfry than have another 9 game season like a couple years ago.

It's not like they are suddenly drawing a line and saying they are only going to play in-state teams. The Rocks will still have 4 or 5 games against the best of GCL, the best of Indianapolis, etc...

 

It's not Like Trinity is going to play Cathedral, Carmel, Moeller, Ensworth and then because they have an extra game and play possibly a Top 15 overall team in KY like Belfry all of a sudden their program takes a major hit.

It was explained that scheduling is not an easy process. With the new district alignment, a lot of flexibility was lost. Male and PRP came on board early for the next two seasons. Farewell to Moeller, Cathedral, Carmel, Cocoa, Imhotep...it was good to know you.
